Although the vast majority of asylum seekers have come to NYC to pursue the American dream, recent high profile crimes have been committed by criminals possibly linked to gangs that have infiltrated our shelter system. Complicating matters is NYC's status as a sanctuary city, with what critics say are soft on crime laws that allow dangerous criminals to be released and not held in jail, regardless of where they're from..

All of those responsible for freeing these criminals should take their place in prison cells. How can they possibly have a safe and pleasant city to live in if they pollute the surroundings with criminal filth like that? It’s suicidal.

Well, that depends on how you define “dream”. If by “dream” you mean get on the public dole while committing crimes of opportunity, I guess the statement is true.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m sure some illegals come to NYC to pursue the American dream of 100 years ago. That dream is dead, as it required factories and mills - work for unskilled labor.
The factories and mills are gone now. So the dream is dead.
There’s a ton of service industry jobs out there that Mexicans have where I live.
You guys don’t get the point.
It doesn’t MATTER why they are here.
It’s ILLEGAL.
Even if every single one was working and contributing and not committing crimes...they already committed the crime.
The VAST majority of Mexicans I have seen out here are tremendously hard workers and there is little crime in the areas that they live.
But they are here ILLEGALY.
So it doesn’t really matter what they contribute or don’t.
It matters that they commited a crime.
And the punishment is supposed to be deportation.

I agree. A society will eventually collapse when laws are ignored, just because.
As to the illegals working hard, I’m seeing that in my neck of the woods too. For example, most of the roofers seem to be Haspanic.
But I live in a suburban area. What about in the big cities? Back in the early 1900s there were enough factory jobs to give immigrants not just work, but a shot at the “American Dream”.
I can’t see that happening today.
Hope they raise holy hell. The electorate deserves to enjoy the fruits of their own doucheness.
I live in NYC where there are tremendous number of service oriented jobs...I drove a cab for a second income a few decades back and the Mexicans would work crazy hours...and tip well. Never had trouble with them in the car.
But AGAIN, it’s illegal...and I cannot abide it.
I have a heart. I get it. Raise legal immigration numbers for people who have someone here to sponsor them or have a needed skill already. And are well vetted! I’m ok with that.
But illegal is illegal.
What I do also see and I can’t even believe it is the number of white kids that don’t want or need to work so they don’t.
I can’t even get someone to shovel my walk in the winter...except Mexicans and they’re becoming true Americans...overcharging now!!
This country needs its youth to get a stronger work ethic...and so many other things.
Boy I rambled...sorry! :)
Always to see older names I remember on the board :)
Lol, thanks for saving me the time of continuing.
Thanks for the informative reply. Before a became a teacher I was a steel mill worker. My old mill is gone now, like most of the others in the region.
So I sometimes see things only from a steel mill worker’s point of view. That’s probably why no company will hire me as a big-picture executive.

No they haven’t. They’ve come to collect welfare.
You seem pretty damn bright.
