With increased euthanasia legislation across the U.S., as well as the weakening of residency requirements for some of these states, a new form of "medical" tourism is on the rise: traveling to die.
In May 2023, Vermont lifted its residency requirement for assisted suicide, which resulted in nonresidents flocking to the state to end their lives. Non-residents comprised almost 25% of all assisted suicide cases in Vermont according to data collected between May 2023 and June 2024. Meanwhile, in November 2023, the Vermont Department of Health found that the number of people with terminal illnesses taking advantage of hospice care has begun to decline.
In July 2023, the first state to legalize assisted suicide – Oregon – became the second state behind Vermont to remove its residency requirements, opening the doors for nonresidents seeking euthanasia to take advantage of their laws. As Live Action News has reported, in Oregon at least 23 people are known to have traveled there specifically for assisted suicide – with Brittany Maynard being the most notorious example. But the number of out-of-state residents who traveled for assisted suicide is likely higher, as Oregon does not collect residency status as part of the application process. In 2024, the state of Oregon reported a troubling 21% increase in overall assisted suicide cases.
The year 2024 saw an increase in assisted suicide legislation as well, with 19 states bringing the topic to the legislative floor. Of those states, only Delaware's legislation passed both chambers; the bill is currently on the governor's desk awaiting a signature, with no indication of what he plans to do. Assisted suicide is currently legal in 10 U.S. states: Oregon, Maine, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Washington, Hawaii, New Jersey, Washington, D.C. and Vermont.

I believe this is already the leading cause of death in Canada.
I see this as a definite part of the future, rightly or wrongly.
Old people who are sick.
People who haven’t saved for retirement — spend every paycheck, live it up as best you can, do not worry about retirement for a minute.
People who are mentally ill at any age.
Young people who have lost hope.
I’d say there is more than 50% of the population that fits into the categories above.
And I suspect the government will encourage it. Want to fully fund Social Security? Hey ... I have an idea ...
Dark times ahead.
Write down your bucket list here of the places you’re dying to see.
I guess one positive aspect would be that you could max out your credit cards with no concern.
Regards,
The movie “Soylent Green” with Charleton Heston addresses that very fact—showing that in the future, it will be commonplace.
The movie I just mentioned shows it as a wonderful experience and something to look forward to.
Problem is afterwards, they can still vote.
A good friend's father was hospitalized a few years ago with a heart attack and hooked up to machines. The attending doctor didn't think the old man would make it.
My friend, respecting Dad's wishes to not be on machines, signed a paper approving the de-machining and putting the Dad on "comfort care" which (IN GENERAL) is basically no curative care.
That was ok - that was the Dad's wishes.
The old man pulled through, but the hospital refused to put Dad back on fluids or nutrition because - you guessed it - "comfort care" IN THAT HOSPITAL and for THAT DOCTOR is effectively Terri Schaivo-style starvation and dehydration.
They said, food and water was a medical treatment and thus "curative" and AGAINST the rules of "comfort care."
My friend was stunned. And the attending and her team wouldn't budge - ”you signed the document giving consent.”
For the next few days, my friend and siblings heard from scores of nurses etc that withholding fluids was effectively "the right thing to do"....very Terri Schaivo-like. They also threw in “Dad live a good long life” and “he will never come back the way he was.”
It took a virtual miracle whereby a different doctor intervened, said the father clearly wasn't terminal, and put the old man back on nutrition and fluids.
While my friend's Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep a few weeks later, it was on the Dad’s terms.
It’s also worth noting that the siblings were split on “comfort care.” There WAS a view that it was ok for Dad to dehydrate to death. Someone even said that dehydration is painless; I hear the total opposite during the Schaivo murder.
Euthanasia is, technically, illegal. And I know many people would be OK if fluids were withheld when it is THEIR time to go. Fair enough.
But euthanasia can be made legal if you're not careful with the Fine Print or vetting the "mercy killing" mindset of the attending.
Wonder if you can book ahead a round trip ticket for less than a one-way?
Hopefully, most of these vacationing euthanasians are far left Jammy Mammy supporters just doing what they have to do to get back on all the DemonRAT voter rolls.
I’m sure the vacationing euthanasians will cast absentee ballots on the way into the death chambers.
The question is whether they will trigger a state income tax obligation for their period of residency. At the rate California is going, a long layover at LAX will soon trigger California income taxes and an exit tax if you try to reestablish out of state residency when you finally get home.
I can’t believe Montana is on the list. The only deep red state or any red state for that matter.
Old people who are sick.
People who haven’t saved for retirement — spend every paycheck, live it up as best you can, do not worry about retirement for a minute.
People who are mentally ill at any age.
Young people who have lost hope.

To the list I add: People who have forgotten their Savior.
Did the Almighty God not include mortal death in his plan for humanity? Then why do some break faith with this Devine plan? Did he not promise to never leave the down trodden or allow them more suffering than they could endure, if they remained faithful and steadfastly placed their care in his loving arms? If killing is a sin then death remains within God’s providence.
They don’t need all this tourist BS. Just find a nice high cliff somewhere near their house. Walk to the edge and take a “selfie”. Problem solved.
Just say, “I have information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of Hillary Clinton”.
They’ll take care of the rest.
Right you are. I’ve got a feeling there are going to be millions of euthanasian vacationers if the Jammy Mammy gets elected. I have heard that a lot of people are buying old hearses and turning them into RVs. I was wondering why.
I almost had one of those on a cruise ship once...
What happened to Montana that it’s on that list?
The others I can see. And I’m surprised NY isn’t on it.
But Montana????
