Kamala Harris unveils populist policy agenda, with $6,000 credit for newborns

Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday unveiled an aggressively populist economic agenda, providing the most detailed vision yet of her governing priorities since becoming the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

Ahead of Harris’s speech in North Carolina, her campaign announced her support for more than a dozen economic policies aimed at “lowering costs for American families,” including some that went beyond what President Joe Biden had promised.

The most striking proposals were for the elimination of medical debt for millions of Americans; the “first-ever” ban on price gouging for groceries and food; a cap on prescription drug costs; a $25,000 subsidy for first-time home buyers; and a child tax credit that would provide $6,000 per child to families for the first year of a baby’s life.

The last item followed a suggestion earlier this month from JD Vance, the GOP vice-presidential nominee, that the credit be raised from $2,000 per child to $5,000. Harris is also calling for restoring the Biden administration’s child tax credit that expired at the end of 2021, which raised the benefit for most families from $2,000 per child to $3,000.

The flurry of policy positions — just days before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago — represented the clearest articulation yet of how Harris, who has only had a relatively brief time on the national stage, would handle economic policy if elected this fall. Harris has thus far surrounded herself with many former aides to Biden, and her team had made some overtures to business leaders that they hoped reflected a more centrist approach. But the policy positions she embraced Friday suggest she will continue, if not deepen, the party’s transformation under Biden, who pushed for more aggressive government intervention in the economy on industrial, labor and antitrust policies.

I could support a "child tax credit for newborns"....

IF IT ONLY APPLIES TO CHILDREN OF MARRIED U.S. CITIZEN COUPLES

Odd since the dems love their abortions. Wonder if the fetal matter has to be living or dead to get the $? My bet is it doesn’t matter.

I remember a classic line from the God Father. It is implied that it is necessary for humans to get our asses kicked from time to time. We can never be happy and it is our nature to fight, kill, hate, enslave. And when times are good and external threats are gone (RE: the fall of the Soviet Union), we turn our attacks upon ourselves which is happening right now. Seems like we are looking for reasons to be angry and to hate and come up with irrational, illogical, new norms and to attack fellow Americans.

Anyway, it is a cycle... prosperity to destruction and war to reconstruction and prosperity... repeat.

The risk is that when a country is “rebuilding” itself, there is a slim chance that the new government will be good. Example: the Russian Revolution.

The theory goes that it gets rid of the “bad blood.” You appreciate what you had when you are in the middle of a civil war when there is murder, starvation, and disease.

Link to the God Father scene. It is just human nature.

The question you have to ask, is can/will Kamala deliver on those promises. As far as Kamala goes, she’s the current vice-president. Why hasn’t she done this stuff already? Also, I don’t think there is any way they will do it without raising our taxes somewhere else. This is how the democrats roll. Or, once they are back in power, just claim those mean old republicans wouldn’t let them do it.

Regardless, it will get them some votes.

I love that these candidates propose all this spending. But the part that most people miss is that they are all impotent to do ANY of it. Tax related promises have to start in the House. I don’t see them raising any taxes.

Then stuff has to go to the Senate. I don’t see many of these proposals getting 60 votes in the Senate.

I am in favor of reducing taxes for those of us who pay them. Using credits to buy votes is old as the mountains. But when we can hardly pay the interest in the debt…any spending is just silly.

She's in office now and the regime she's part of could pass any of these "populist" proposals, including no taxes on tip, NOW.

She and the regime won't because they have no intention of passing them if Harris is elected.

She has already said she wants to see FEWER people. Either births would be offset somewhere else, and/or this is just a bait and switch. Which one fits her commie ideology best?

Can you remember even one time when a Demorat kept a campaign promise?

They can make the same promises every election because they never keep any of them.

$6K for a baby. That’s pretty much what the Great Society welfare program did, and look what it did for the American black family.

Lotsa babies, lotsa fathers, lotsa dough.
