That is the question that has dogged the 39-year-old senator from Ohio along his peculiar path to power, which began in 2016 with the publication of his bestselling memoir Hillbilly Elegy and culminated this week when former President Donald Trump selected him as a running mate for the 2024 election.

I tuned Levin out for more than a year. I remember the road I was on when being curious about his radio show a year after the 2016 primaries. His rhetoric was a complete 180 from before, and I was quite happy to hear it.

On July 15, 2024, during the 2024 Republican National Convention, Trump
announced that he chose Vance as his running mate via a post on Truth Social.
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.
J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association.
J.D.’s book, “Hillbilly Elegy,” became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country.
J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond….”

Only 55... I’m disappointed in politico.
We should admire they who successfully served as ‘patriotic constitutionalist ‘special operators behind enemy lines’, courageous and consequential as many are.
FWIW ... Justice Thomas has said publicly several times that he’s so embarrassed about his Yale education that he packed his diploma away years ago.
Some folks need to do some research on the guy. Maybe read his book or watch his interviews. There is a You Tube Megan Kelly interview with him. Some may want to watch comments by Senator John Kennedy (LA), Vivek, and a few others who have very positive opinions on Vance.
Yeah, education is a terrible waste.
Yup, people forget all that… if they ever even knew it, anyway, with any luck Levin will be Trump’s AG.
Levin as Trump’s AG would be glorious……..
Put another way: Before J13 I’d risk my life to vote Trump. After J13 you are risking your life trying to stop me voting Trump.
And when Ted Cruz replaces Sonya Soymotor on SCOTUS...
That’s ok. Things and people change during our lives and as our awareness of them changes.
When I was younger, I didn’t like the way we elect presidents, our party conventions, etc. It all looked like a ‘sports event’, rather than the more ‘sober’ deliberation that my younger self thought it should be.
But tonight, I am LOVING the RNC convention. All of these normal, American citizens getting together to actually ENJOY partaking of our American political system.
Teamsters, other Union representatives, Black, Hispanic, White, rich, poor - people from every American culture and age coming together under the canopy of our original American principles.
It’s kind of a glory to behold...STILL!
Wonderful. I’ll have to catch the highlights. Thanks :)
“I don’t know that I can disrespect someone more than J.D. Vance,”
Mitt Romney told his biographer in 2022, as Vance was running for the Senate.
Good enough for me.
“56. He’s so difficult to trust, nobody will want him to be POTUS, so that’s life insurance for DJT.”
What makes Vance Life Insurance for Trump is that the PRIME OBJECTIVE of the Democrats, taking down Russia, will not advance if Trump takes over. Trump dodged a bullet (for the second time in 3 days) by picking Vance - had he picked a Deep State type, he would have likely been given the “Reagan treatment” in his first year in office.
Let’s remind ourselves that the great Justice Clarence Thomas is a Yalie. So is Justice Samuel Alito, the one who ruled to bring down the Roe v. Wade decision.

Thanks for that reminder, SeekAndFind. I am now more confident Vance is NOT the follow-the-footsteps-of-the-Bushes kind of Yale Law School graduate.
Good news!
Ha! Great story about the Romney Rat! Vance all the way!
"After working at Sidley Austin LLP, Vance moved to San Francisco…" "Vance's wife Usha Chilukuri Yale ‘07"
