I’ve never been in combat or been shot at, except the first time I ever went paintballing and heard the sound of the paint pellets whizzing past my head before I ever knew I was a target and being shot at, I was a little shocked, and paint pellets are much slower than bullets. I suddenly became more appreciative that I never had to go to war. There’s something visceral and shocking about how instantaneous a bullet is.

Per my Nosler Reloading Manual:

NATO .556, 55 grain @ 3000 fps muzzle velocity for flight time:

100 yrd @ 0.11 seconds

200 yrd @ 0.23 seconds

Commercial 223, 55 grain @ 3200 fps muzzle velocity flight time:

100 yrd @ 0.10 seconds

200 yrd @ 0.21 seconds

For kicks, a 223/.556, 55 grain pill flight time greater than 0.30 seconds for 130-140 yards would have a muzzle velocity less than 2400 fps.
