A large landslide destroyed a significant portion of the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, China, at around 02:10 local time on May 1, 2024. The collapse caused 23 vehicles to plummet down a steep slope, igniting some in flames and resulting in 48 fatalities and 30 injuries as of May 2, 2024.
In the early morning (LT) of May 1, 2024, a large landslide triggered by extensive rainfall hit the Chaoyang section of the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway in Meizhou City, resulting in severe destruction and loss of life.
The landslide triggered the collapse of an approximately 18 m (59 feet) section of the highway down a steep slope, covering an area of roughly 185 m2 (221 square yards).
The collapse, which coincided with the start of the five-day May Day holiday — a peak travel period, impacted one side of the four-lane highway, resulting in 23 vehicles plummeting down the steep slope, with several igniting into flames upon impact.

Terrifying! May God comfort the grief-stricken and heal the injured.
Pretty much every year at this time they have those monsoon flood disasters. They don’t have the same building codes and construction standards as we do. They are more concerned with building the roads than they are for actually driving on them. Same with buildings and dams. A couple of years ago I watched hours and hours of disaster porn from China. Train tunnels flooding, whole villages flooded because the dam operators would open the floodgates at night. The people would go to bed and wake up with water all around them, sometimes they had to swim out or go upstairs. Nobody wants to be responsible for the dam collapse so they let the water out. They do it at night so nobody can see them do it. Hundreds of cars get washed away. Buildings collapse or fall down embankments. Roads and bridges collapse. We think that we would never have to worry about such things but for them it’s a matter of when not if.
sub-par chinese engineering and construction........change my mind
Tofu dreg construction.
Chicoms spend huge amounts of money which then lines the pockets of party officials all the way down.
So nope, I’m not impressed by a damn thing China builds.
First off the report is a lie.
“ A large landslide destroyed a significant portion of the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway”
The road itself collapses.
It was not a landslide.
I don’t know why they just overtly lie and at the same time show a picture that shows they’re lying.
Now do Three Gorges Dam.
China, where life is cheap...
‘Merica also has money grubbing pols that also do not give a damn.
exactly, the headline in Taiwan, or Japan would be “Extreme rainfall triggers deadly slippery road, Injured one
Landslides happen in the US too.

Thank you for your insight. I know zero about this but your thoughts help.
Won’t be changing your mind, since China has a bad record to start with, but US roads can get washed out too. 48 people died, some of them from being in burning cars, as if falling off a cliff and being buried in mud wasn’t bad enough.
