“You Can Lose a $400,000 Home Over a $1,600 Tax Bill—Just Ask Christine Searle”
You Can Lose a $400,000 Home Over a $1,600 Tax Bill to a malignant government
There, fixed it
I’ve been saying for decades that property taxes ARE unconstitutional——this is why. Why should a tax bill be applied to property you already own? Abolish property taxes....
The real problem is property tax. Property tax denies the right of ownership and instead turns ostensible homeowners into tenants of the state.
It is time to outlaw property taxes. Find another way to fund government or else just cut spending down to what is necessary.
Either way, I don’t own it if I have to pay rent to the king every year.
No, that’s foolish. You’re better off carrying the biggest mortgage you can afford, use your extra income wisely, and let the government deal with the bank when this kind of sh!t happens.
This is unconscionable theft and should be struck down.
Where’s the equity in redemption?
Most of those states are no surprise.

Unless your a squatter then all you do is look for another empty house.
Ain’t law handy Moe.
The homeowner is entirely at fault. But she won’t lose her home, however. She’ll do what she should have done a year ago. Pay the tax.
Problem solved.
I didn’t really need another reason to absolutely HATE the government (all levels but especially state and federal) but this story certainly provides one.
basically we are in that same boat...our representatives do not care about citizens or their plight....
if there ever was an unfair tax its property tax because it never ends, not after many decades of paying it....
in essence you don't really own your home, you are renting it...
I have no problem with foreclosures due to unpaid property taxes, but the foreclosure sale should only pay off the unpaid taxes, with the balance going to the owner on whom the property was foreclosed.
For a person or a company to pay someone’s tax debt of $1,600 dollars and then be able to get a 268% profit that also takes the property from the prior owner wiping out any equtiy they have in the property is nothing other than legalized theft.
Ihe institution of property taxes ended "private property in land."
You no longer own property.
You rent it from the government.
