Lawfare. They know this is un-Constitutional and do it anyway to make Gun Rights groups spend $$$ to fight them.

Gun Rights groups eventually win, but deplete financial resources from their members.

The State has a seemingly endless supply of money from the taxpayers.

Lawfare. It ought to be illegal.

Punishing law-abiding, conservative gun owners. When will they start punishing people who use guns to commit crimes?

Register (and pay a fee) to exercise a right. Any bets on it getting struck down when it gets to SCOTUS? I realize the 9th circus would hear it first, of course.

Unconstitutional on its face.

Taxing is the equivalent of requiring a citizen to pay for their God Given right, enshrined in the 2nd amendment.

No different than a poll tax

Thus, we in the excellent Red States now need to prepare for even more Californians moving next-door.

Ugh.

Dear residents of the once-great Golden State.

It's much easier to never, ever miss a vote (in person) and to take an active role in government (at all levels) than it is to move.

SCOTUS has already made a ruling on this sort of thing!

"One of the ordinary modes, by which tyrants accomplish their purposes without resistance is by disarming the people, and making it an offense to keep and bear arms."

Joseph Story , Supreme Court Justice on the 2nd amendment}

In Marbury v. Madison the Supreme Court announced for the first time the principle that a court may declare an act of Congress void if it is inconsistent with the Constitution.

"All laws that are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void." Marbury v. Madison
And that would include state legislators!

At least they would be firearm owners, not cross dressers and homos.

Kalifornika politicians always find ways to screw every good thing up.

It’s in their nature. It’s who they are. It’s what they are. You will find their birthplace under mounds of horseshit and other similar places. It’s why they are what they are. Crap begets crap.

This is just another way for California to tax people. It wil have no effect on registration.

The problem they are facing there is that they have a problem with street guns like everyone else. But the unfortunate problem is that street guns probably haven’t been registered for years and years and the people that buy those have no intention of telling the government they have them. What would be the purpose for the criminal in getting them identified and if they don’t show up, and the people California are basically concerned about those that are not going to, then why waste the money if it is legit to get something accomplished? It’s all about taxing the public that is trying to do it right. Outside of that, it will accomplish nothing but suck funds from honst people.
