‘Big comedown’ as DeSantis abandons New Hampshire

HAMPTON BEACH, New Hampshire — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ big New Hampshire strategy: Don’t bother.

Stuck in the single-digits in New Hampshire polls even after a distant second-place finish in Iowa, DeSantis is decamping to what he hopes will be a warmer political climate — throwing himself into campaign events in South Carolina on Saturday and Sunday, a campaign official confirmed.

Largely bypassing New Hampshire, which holds its primary on Tuesday, is a clear acknowledgment that DeSantis will get thumped by Donald Trump and Nikki Haley here. DeSantis had sunk most of his resources into Iowa and had been criticized for all but ignoring the Granite State for weeks at a time.

“It’s a big comedown for somebody who a year ago looked like he was going to be the one to take on Trump,” said Jon McHenry, a vice president at North Star Opinion Research Group whose firm worked on DeSantis’ 2018 gubernatorial campaign.

“That’s the sort of thing a campaign does when they say, ‘We are going to get destroyed here so let’s act like we didn’t contest the state,’” he added.

I’m looking forward to seeing the raw numbers and comparing them to previous primaries to figure out roughly just how many Dems crossed over to vote for Nimrata.

Isn’t it obvious that Trump is the nominee?

Meatball said Trump was running a Biden Basement Strategy.
Trump has 4 Rallies in NH and may add a 5th.
Yet, Ronnie is running an AWOL Strategy in NH.

If he suspends his campaign and Trump is jailed, he can get back in.

Dear Ron,
Salvage your dignity.
Get on the Trump Train.
Your year may be 2028.

“It’s a big comedown for somebody who a year ago looked like he was going to be the one to take on Trump,”

Ron's problem is that he believed Democrats and TDS'ers that he really was the alternative to Trump. He should have just demurred and deferred until 2028.

So now he's relegated to abandoning a state with less population than Dekalb and Fulton County Georgia

I don’t get the basement comment, but I did see his communications lead, Pushaw has resigned and leaving politics.

NH has a system where you have to register with any party about a week BEFORE any candidates register with the state. This would have happened in early October 2023. Either R or D, but about 40% of the electorate register as unaffiliated.

On primary day, those “unaffiliated voters” can participate in the primary on primary day, but can only request a ballot for 1 party....no double-dipping.

Interesting. I’ll then be curious to see what percentage of unaffiliated go to her. Do we know if there are an unusual number of unaffiliated this election year and what percentage of them normally vote R?

I think he’s bailing so Haley can have his 6% to put her within 10% of Trump. He took all that money and now he does what he’s told.

Reminds me of the time Giuliani, when he ran for president, regally ignored all primaries and placed all his hopes on winning Florida. He did not win Florida and it was all over.

“Pushaw has resigned and leaving politics.”

Only way that bitch stays out of US politics is if Trump is elected and KEEPS HER OUT.
