A Devil’s Bargain on Campus. What compels college students to “stand in solidarity” with Hamas?
James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal ^ | November 1, 2023 | A.J. Caschetta

Many Americans were surprised by the seemingly spontaneous protests on college campuses in support of “Palestine” after the Hamas assault on Israel. After all, how could anyone do anything other than condemn the Hamas pogrom, in which babies, children, and the elderly were massacred, raped, and burned alive? The answer lies in the toxic mix of politics, ignorance, and antisemitism emanating from the failure of American academia, especially the field of Middle East studies. The shocking anti-Israel vitriol on display at protests since October 7 would have been impossible in the 20th century.

For decades, large swaths of academia have been as devoted to indoctrination as to education. For most of the 20th century, academics have been largely left-leaning, but the Overton Window has moved dramatically leftward in the 21st century.

In his history of modern terrorism, David C. Rapoport describes the Vietnam War as “the major political event stimulating” leftist ideology in the 1960s and 1970s. The underdog Viet Cong fighting effectively against the massive American war machine became the personification of heroism to campus protestors. “When the Vietnam War ended in 1975,” Rapoport explains, “the PLO replaced the Viet Cong as the heroic model.”

It was only a matter of time until that generation became tenured professors and changed academia forever.

Perhaps no field of study was changed more than Middle East studies. In his masterful examination of the topic, Ivory Towers on Sand (2001), Martin Kramer shows that, by the 1980s, “Middle East studies came under a take-no-prisoners assault, which rejected the idea of objective standards, disguised the vice of politicization as the virtue of commitment, and replaced proficiency with ideology.” It also put Israel in the crosshairs.

The field is represented by the Middle East Studies Association (MESA)

Let’s not forget that these “studies” were made possible with Arab $ financing new chairs, departments and inter sectionalizing grievance and “victimized” with a big marxist twist, the seeding and embedding professorships and administrations with a generation of misguided mind f*cked women...well, you know the outcome.

Communists. That is what caused the protests.

The ready standing ‘socialists’ groups printed the signs and started the protests.

...Because it’s a “Socially-Acceptable” way to express one’s inborn hatred for t3h j0000z.

I wrote a piece about this very thing back in 2014, and I still stand by every word of it, although I have been called every name in the book...

If It’s Not About the Jews...
— (c)2014 by (((Trevor Patrick)))

The keffiyeh-wearing activists all say:
that Anti-Zionism is not Anti-Semitism,
and that antipathy towards Israel,
is not really about the Jews...

It’s about the ‘Illegitimate, Apartheid State’,
that ‘occupies’ the entirety of Palestine,
and that ancient hatreds and blood-libels,
aren’t the things that are shaping their views.

They say that their overarching care,
is for people living as prisoners in their own, stolen homeland,
and in ensuring that ‘silenced’ voices
are finally, at long last heard-

but the mounting inconsistencies in their message,
in talk as well as in deed,
are making some folks realise,
that their actions belie their words.

Because if it’s not about the Jews,
why is Palestine such a cause-célèbre,
when there’s dozens of other nations,
whose rightful citizens live as slaves?

And why then is Israel called an ‘illegitimate’ entity,
even though it was recognised by the UN,
and the vast majority of the world’s nations:
most of them in 1948?

And if it’s not about the Jews,
why do the activists insist
on referring to Jerusalem as ‘Al Quds’,
rather than using its proper,
5,000 year-old historical name?

If it’s not about the Jews,
and it’s all about the oppressed Palestinians,
what about the ones living in camps
in neighbouring nations:

generations born on foreign soil,
but never allowed
basic rights, citizenship,
or much less, a sense of place?

If it’s not about the Jews,
why is there a double standard for the Israelis,
where protecting their safety
is called an act of genocide?

But every attack by Palestinians,
that succeeds in killing Israelis,
no matter what the context,
is always justified?

Because if it was truly not about the Jews,
the activists would see the real truth,
that the biggest victimisation of the Palestinians
is not from Israel-

but rather from their own fanatical leadership,
who don’t want peace, but want every Jew dead,
and from all the other Arab nations
that use them as bargaining chips and pawns.

And if it’s not about the Jews,
then maybe you should ask yourself:
can you stare in the mirror,
and look yourself in the eyes-

when wherever you happen to live,
you’re standing on land
that often your ancestors
were the ones that seized and occupied?

And if it’s not about the Jews,
would you live by your own standards,
and say that when the bus you’re riding on is blown up,
you deserved to die-

that you have no intrinsic right to protect yourself,
in the land you’ve known from birth,
because your very citizenship
is based upon a lie?

If it’s not about the Jews,
why then is Israel hated more
than any other so-called ‘occupying power’,
on the face of the Earth?

For example, no one’s given a shit since 1974,
about occupied Northern Cyprus:
A so-called ‘country’ that is recognised
by no one, but the occupying Turks.

And it’s also no longer trendy
unless you’re Richard Gere,
to talk about China’s continuing occupation
and cultural despoliation of Tibet;

because, after all, it wasn’t dirty Jew-Gold,
that financed the forced ‘liberation’ of Lhasa,
and the Tibetans don’t strap suicide bombs to their children,
or murder Chinese families in their beds.

But the Chinese occupiers
have single-handedly wiped-out
the centuries-old tradition of the Panchen Lama,
and will do the same to the Dalai Lama,
on the day he finally drops dead.

And if it’s not about the Jews,
why am I supposed to boycott, divest and sanction against Soda-Stream,
but I’m crazy if I do the same against other companies,
whose nations have demonstrably occupied foreign territory,
and treat the people they’ve oppressed far worse yet?

Likewise, every African horror story,
that captures the public attention
for all of five minutes,
but then disappears like smoke,
as all other stories about oppressed brown people
so invariably do...

But Palestine has dominated the discourse,
and will continue to do so until Israel is destroyed,
because the plain and simple truth
is that it’s ALWAYS been about the Jews.

“...What compels college students to “stand in solidarity” with Hamas?...”

1. Misinformation
2. No information
3. Not enough intellect or honesty to see a difference and acquire
total and true information on their own

20 somethings (college kids) love to be “rebellious” and root for other “rebels” because it makes them feel bada@@ to do so. They have yet to learn that there is more to life and honor and respect than being an idiot and backing demon driven garbage.

I beleive it’s all abput the rebellion of it all- it’s “cool” to be a non conformist without a care or responsibility in the world while everyone pays your bills for you

Absolutely, three generations of brainwashing. But it is more in the bigger picture. They created mindless zombies that they can trigger and make act without thinking.

Seems when our indoctrination Centers weren't selling out to the Chinese they were selling out to folks in the Middle East.

The left wants to 'regulate' everything?

Fine.

It's time to regulate University and College systems. Law restricting money to Universities and Colleges from foreign sources should do the trick.

It’s time to have a serious discussion on college campuses about whether murder, rape, torture and infanticide are now legitimate means of resolving political disagreements. It appears to be so at many colleges and it would make an interesting topic for debate. Or at least to explore how widely held this perspective is. Or if the proponents have the courage to admit it or if they need to be in a crowd with their faces covered.
