A nearby exoplanet orbiting within the habitable zone of a star just 4.2 light-years from Earth may be home to a vast ocean, boosting its chances of supporting life. Since its discovery, questions about the conditions at the surface of Proxima b have been swirling; the planet’s mass is just about 1.3 times that of Earth’s, and the red dwarf star it circles is similar in age to our sun.
Studies over the last few years, however, have both bolstered hopes of its habitability and shot them down. Now, a new study has once again raised the possibility that Proxima b could support life, suggesting that under the right conditions, the exoplanet could sustain liquid water.
“The major message from our simulations is that there’s a decent chance that the planet would be habitable,” Anthony Del Genio, a planetary scientist at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, told LiveScience.

In the study published this month in the journal Astrobiology, the researchers ran what are said to be the first climate simulations of Proxima b with a dynamic ocean. The planet is thought to be tidally locked with its star, Proxima Cent

Light takes 22 hours, 4 minutes, and 56.2078 seconds to travel from Voyager 1 and arrive to us.
looked it up because i’m thinking that you were maybe confusing it with Mars which is almost 13 minutes on average..
Humans on the trip would all be dead, but if we sent these guys, they could kick lousy Centauran butt.
They'd probably be really mad if we tried to communicate and then send someone named Zod, not Kal-El...
First send probes via solar sales powered by laser beams. If you are going to send people you might consider generation ships or hibernation. And yes we don’t have hibernation yet
Absolutely the first thing to do
Why wouldn’t the robot have a built in firearm.
Those 44 years would seem much less to an Orion powered ship. As you approach relativistic speed your time on board appears much quicker in comparison to the time viewed by an outside observer. 40 years may seem like 4 years onboard the craft.
I find it amazing that so many people are absolutely terrified by the mere suggestion that there might be life somewhere besides Earth.
And when we land, we will be welcomed with open arms(?).
And then we can set CO2 limits, etc., to improve the planet.
Gee.. let's see... ( Speed of Light ) 186,000 miles per second times 365 days in a year = 31,536,000 seconds per year or 126,144,000 seconds for 4 years times 186,000 miles per each second = 23,462,784,000,000 miles away ( Well, that's ONLY 23 TRILLION 462 BILLION 784 MILLION miles away! )
Impossible. Forty years ago the pipsqueak skeptics told us there were no planets orbiting other stars.
I saw that in a movie last Saturday afternoon.
If there politicians generate as much hot air as ours I’m sure they had harvested enough energy to power ships to slight speed and visit us. I’m also sure they can harvest enough energy from our politicos for their return trip.
“Highly habitable.”
Words have lost their meaning. Language has deteriorated into marketing schemes.
maybe reachable in about another 1000 years....Oh wait, since we are teaching values lessons and diversity, maybe 10,000. Naw, likely never.
Flashback to a Hammer Studios flick?
Yup! There's a heck of a lot on uninhabitable places on Earth that have life flourishing.
That’s easy. The new engine needs to be fueled by dollar bills.
Now NASA can right me a nice check for solving this problem.
And get a series of probes reporting back starting within 25 years!
