June 1, 2023, is Marilyn Monroe’s 97th birthday
In some or many male hearts and dreams, she is very much alive.
She was available.
“What do I wear in bed?” she pretended to ask herself, “Why, Chanel No.5, of course.”
The fantasy was so good that it became real.
“If I’d observed all the rules, I’d never have got anywhere.”
Her reality sometimes went happily, but tragically too:
these are believed to be her last words spoken to actor Peter Lawford: She was “tired and would not be coming” to dinner. “…… say goodbye to the president (Lawford’s brother-in-law), and say goodbye to yourself, because you’re a nice guy.” (She drifted off to death.)
We cannot forget her.
She rests, I hope, and somehow stays alive in us.

I watched her in “The Misfits” a month ago. It was the first time I’d seen that movie. It was fantastic with her paired against Clark Gable. My gosh, she was SO sexy.
A rose colored glasses piece, but if she’s viewed with a more realistic lens: addicted to alcohol and substances, whorish, screwed/had affairs with several married men, divorced, not great with her money.
That was an amazing movie. The acting was superb.
As the myth of Ganymede points out, being beautiful is not always the gift it is made out to be.
It was superb all the way around. But the Gable / Monroe chemistry was really something.
I'm guessing that headline was written either by a non-native English speaker or a girl in Jr Hi.
It really was.
Her, Gable and Montgomery Cliff were all dead within a year or so…. Very good movie.
I love Marilyn Monroe. She was like a fairy or something unearthly.
She was like a “Candle in the Wind”.
” She was like a fairy or something unearthly.”
That’s a great description. It is mesmerizing watching and listening to her. America’s heart-throb, for sure.
yes
She was great in Niagra and don’t ever go there unless you watch the movie first.
Knowing of the future of all three of those, The Misfits is truly a noteworthy film. It’s their swan song.
I was training my grandson on classic movies and when I had him watch Some Like it Hot, he was about 11 or 12, and he said, “Granny, she’s really not like the other girls.” 🤗
LOL...smart kid! Today’s wokesters wouldn’t be able to tell.
> “The Misfits”
One of my favorites.
She’s live a long and happy life if she married me.
Everybody’s flawed, especially artists.
Unless you’re in their personal orbit, their messy lives are beside the point.
It’s the art. It’s the dream that speaks to our dreams.
She was average pretty off screen, had been pushed around, passed around, kicked around. It all buffed out real good when they applied the makeup and put her in front of a camera.
Then, she became a work of art.
