In a development straight out of a dystopian sci-fi thriller, fast food giant Wendy’s has embarked on a chilling experiment, replacing its drive-through order takers with an AI chatbot powered by Google software. This technological takeover aims to streamline the ordering process by training the AI to understand customer requests and decrease waiting times at the drive-throughs.
According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, Wendy’s is set to launch this eerie transformation in its home state of Ohio, starting with locations in Columbus. The company plans to implement the change in June, all in the name of shorter lines and faster service, as declared by Chief Executive Todd Penegor.

Coming soon to a Wendy's near you!
The brain component is about to take a quantum leap.
Give it a week until someone starts destroying the place by first punching out the touch screens , because the computers dont understand " gimme" or the patrons cant read.
One week in the wrong location. and the customers start fighting over who was in line first. Spit, punch, kick.
:-))
Now if only they could get the people who prepare the orders to understand and correctly complete them.
Voice recognition software has been unsatisfactory forever.
...AI to understand customer requests ...
Oh, this will be fun
The human order takers voice comes through like mumbling, one can barely understand what they are saying.
They sound like the teacher in a Peanuts cartoon
Every since robot workers became a reality (thanks to the auto industry) there is always a balance with the cost of the robot versus the cost of a human doing the same thing.
Now that the left managed to get the cost of minimum wage workers higher then the value they bring to the job, robots become more cost effective.
This is not the first time this has occurred and it will not be the last.
As a child of the 1950s I can think of dozen of jobs that that existed simply because labor was cheap. Anyone remember going to a gas station in the 1950s and having several attendants surround your car washing your windows, checking tire pressure and oil levels all while filling the tank with 25 cents a gallon of gas?
Or go into a store and there would be many clerks there ready and willing to help you.
Don’t forget office workers, the secretaries and mail clerks and janitors, receptionist and so on.
The milkman, iceman and the bakery goods guy all were able to support a family on their low wages. All gone now.
Technology and labor cost either made their work redundant or too expensive for businesses.
So yes, fast food places are going with more automation and less humans (as is any other business that can will).
Not just the US but the world is going to face a surplus of labor, then what is going to happen?
Wars and Pandemics have been used in the past to reduce the population but surely today’s leaders would not do that, would they?
Well yah, eventually there will be nobody to start a major brawl with when the chiken nugs come out cold.
It’ s gonna be flustercating.
Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don’t upset us.
“ When AI takes over and nobody has a decent paying job, how can the economy of the country survive?”
Same thing has been said for decades
This is different.
“Supplied by driverless trucks through secure portals” made me think of soylent green for just a brief moment. Not sure why but I had visions of driverless trucks leaving the morgue and plopping the bodies at the prep tables for making the freshly prepared burgers. But THAT could never happen...right?
AI might even improve that joint. Maybe Wendy’s was good at one point in time when Dave was still around but some of the dirtiest restaurants I have ever seen have been Wendy’s and they seem to always screw up my order so I quit going there over a decade ago.
All I ever wanted was a burger with mustard and pickle, for some weird reason Wendy’s felt the need to scrape the ketchup off of the burger and put the ketchup stained bun back on the top of the burger and call it a mustard with pickle, that’s messed up. Plus their grease in their friers always seem on the verge of breaking. I eat fast food rarely but I’m on the road sometimes I don’t have a choice. Might go to is a Taco Bell bean burrito hold the onions.
The only restaurant that hasn’t screwed up an order for me personally has been McDonald’s and I don’t really even like McDonald’s but they can actually understand what I want when I say a hamburger with mustard and pickle only. That means no onions no ketchup just mustard and pickle. Everybody else is hiring morons to take orders, AI will fix that... maybe.
Since American women are on strike and not dutifully producing children, the population is not growing. That is, there are not enough workers to fill the jobs available.
Robots can increase the number of available humans in the workforce.
So....... what is better. Robots or the Democrat induced population growth of aliens from hondorous?
“So if everyone if fired by AI who is going to have the money to buy their products?”
Now there is the true cause and effect they are considering. They are stepping on their own toes.
Our local TB has no menu inside, except at the kiosks.
Your order is only as messed up as you make it.
