As far as newscasters go, my heart will always be with NBC’s John Cameron Swzyzee, my first crush. As a young girl, I attentatively watched him deliver the nightly news on the family’s brand new black and white Dumont TV, our first TV. (We got our first automobile about the same time). Mr. Swaydee seemed kind, brilliant, a no-nonsense guy, a role model, and his was the voice of knowledge and truth for all or much of the nation about what was going on beyond our neighborhood.

I wonder if I ever could have. Growing up there was the guy we watched, the other that was acceptable if something went wrong on the network with the guy we watched, and that other dude that we never watched. I might have been able to name 1 and 2, but forget 3. Then got out of the house, haven’t watched TV “news” since, broadcast or cable.
