I have an idea after reading a thread, namely, a round of Jeopardy adapted to on-line real-time Free Republic participation.
Read over these rules and if you want to be one of the first four to play, at 4 p.m. EDT, 3 p.m. CDT, 2 p.m. MDT or 1 p.m. PDT, register on the thread. First four will play (for 30 minutes), fifth to register is first alternate if one of the four fails to check in at start of play.
I will post the categories at about thirty minutes before the start time so you can be thinking about those.
Answers will range from easy $200 to more difficult $1000 in five stages, just like on TV Jeopardy.
Nobody gets to go first in this internet version. I will post first challenge after check-in at times posted above. For that question, and every subsequent answer, first posted correct question gains control of the board and names the next challenge. If four post incorrect (or no) question, I will indicate this and give a second chance lasting one minute or less. Unlike TV Jeopardy you won't lose money with a wrong response either before or after a right response, only correct questions will change money levels.
IMPORTANT DETAIL: YOUR QUESTION MUST APPEAR IN FORM OF A QUESTION, BUT THE APPEARANCE OF A ? IS NOT MANDATORY.
Example: my clue, wet stuff that comes from faucet
Your response: water ... not acceptable
Your response: what is water? ... acceptable
what is water also acceptable
water? not acceptable
words must form a question in everyday conversational English.
So getting back to procedure, each correct response gives you control of the board. I will post the board if you request help, and I will correct any already taken category request. (Let's say famous posters for $600 has already been taken, and you request it, I will let you know that and you go again). Also you retain control if you previously had it, and nobody gets a correct answer.
If any non-player posts a correct answer during the first attempt, I will void the second chance. If they post one during the first round, I will assume the players did not have time to read it, check it and react. Note to spectators, don't post questions (answers) please.
Order of response is determined by how the thread lists them.
There will be no double jeopardy round and no special question-answer bonus features, just a straight game as described until all answers are met with a chance to post a question.
There will then be a final jeopardy all or nothing wager and the category for that will be PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP.
Are you in? If we get a larger turnout than I expect, we might have more than one round like a tournament. If we have fewer than four, we'll go with two or three.
I am working on categories and answers now. First four to say "Count me in" are in, fifth is alternate. Be aware you will need to keep refreshing your browser to see the thread updating. And you will be continuously engaged from 4 p.m. to perhaps 4:45 p.m. EDT (and the equivalent other times). In Europe? 4 p.m. EDT is currently 9 p.m. UK time and (I think) 10 p.m. European time.
A slight delay to the start time may be necessary if entries are late coming in. It won't be more than 5-10 minutes though.
Bump
Timing may not be good, will consider a re-do on this if nobody registers by deadline.
Questions are ready.
“I will post the categories at about thirty minutes before the start time so you can be thinking about those.”
My clock says 15 minutes till 4pm EDT. Well?
I’m interested, but cannot commit to 30 minutes this afternoon.
“I’ll take swords for $400, Alex....“
I was waiting to see about participants before posting, but will post now anyway.
Welcome to the first round of FR Jeopardy.
Our categories will be:
U.S. states
Math and science
Solar system
Masters golf history
U.S. Presidents
New start time of +15 min ... as no confirmed participants with four minutes to deadline.
Postponement or play decision at 4:15 p.m. EDT
Estimated end of play 5 p.m. EDT.
Round is postponed to 8:00 p.m. EDT, 7:00 p.m. CDT, 6:00 p.m. MDT and 5 p.m. PDT. Register any time now to then. Next decision time for go or cancel is 7:50 p.m. EDT.
Possibly more Freepers around later on? We’ll see.
What is 42?
sadly my age in 1991.
or my likely score on the first six holes of the Masters?
Combined IQ of current pResident and vice provider?
Sadly my ass. Feel sorry for the folks turning 42 now.
Biden’s America ain’t to cool.
Easter might be a poor choice of dates to try this
True, I may reboot this tomorrow evening.
Unless some people indicate an interest for a start in the next 10-15 mins, will check back.
Might be difficult at easter
Seems that way, so I will just drop the idea for today and perhaps reboot it during the week.
I’m in.
shoot me a note. If I am available, i will play.
