Why does it keep happening? A Virginia mother has demanded school authorities take action against an older girl caught on surveillance video choking and bullying her 12 year old son during a recent attack on a school bus.
Taylor Brock, whose son is a seventh-grader at Walt Whitman Middle School in Alexandria, posted footage from the Jan. 23 incident on her blog Monday in which she calls out the older child’s behavior.
A one-minute clip shows the girl hitting her son, grabbing him by the mouth and neck, threatening him, and then apparently choking him while pushing him into the seat.
The driver is only heard warning students not to switch seats.
The incident according to the mom led to her son being left with red marks and bruises and now fearing riding the school bus.

My son came home crying, and I saw the marks on his neck,’ Brock told WUSA 9. ‘It breaks my heart that there are all these kids on the bus and not one decided to stand up.’
The mom wrote that the attacker was the same girl who had stolen a toy from her son months ago.
‘I immediately went to the school to show them the video of the assault and pictures of my son’s neck. Upon seeing this I was sure that the school would take proper action and keep not only my son safe but the other children on the bus and school safe too by expelling her,’ Brock wrote.
‘Surely, a child seen committing a heinous crime would get expelled from school,’ the mom added.
Brock told WJLA that she also filed a complaint with police.
‘The school said they couldn’t tell me what action would be taken against the girl but that they would take care of it,’ she told the outlet, adding that she obtained a protection order from a Fairfax County judge who ordered the girl to stay at least 50 feet away from her son for two years.
‘I found out from my son that she had come back to school after being merely suspended for a criminal act such as strangulation. How is that fair?’ Brock wrote.

The mom said the school assured her that her son and his assailant would not have the same classes and that the principal told the two children to walk apart in the hallways, WUSA reported.
But Brock said her son told her the girl sat behind him at lunch and crossed paths with him in the hallways.
‘Not only did the girl not take this protection order seriously, but the school didn’t either,’ Brock wrote.
She said that when she asked school officials why they merely suspended the girl, ‘they replied, ‘We have protocols we have to follow and execute punishment according to the School’s Code of Conduct.’’
‘From what I have been told, she is known for bullying but mostly bullies my son. He is an easy target as he is one of the shortest and skinniest children in his grade which was true for me growing up as well,’ Broke wrote in her blog.
‘This child committed a felony under adult standards and suspension was the ‘correct form of discipline?’’ she added.

According to guidance by the Virginia Department of Education, schools are not legally responsible for enforcing a court order, but safety should still be a priority and a school can determine steps if an order is violated.
A Fairfax County Public Schools rep told WUSA in a statement: ‘The school administration handled the situation in line with the student discipline manual (FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities). We are unable to share further information due to federal privacy laws.’
Brock told WUSA she plans on moving her son to another school and he has sought therapy.
‘Do you know how many parents have come to me telling me their child were bullied, harassed, sexually assaulted, abused, and harmed at school and how they repeatedly go to the school asking them to do something and the school does nothing?’ the mom wrote.
‘These parents ask me what they need to do to get the schools to take action- and I have to say, ‘I don’t know. The school has video of a crime and a protection order and they still only believed that suspension was enough to keep my child safe,’ she added.
The incident comes after after a number of national bullying episodes being caught on video, including a 15 year old boy and another boy beating a 9 year old Florida girl on a school bus along with video of a 14-year-old New Jersey girl, Adriana Kuch, being mercilessly set upon by four girls in a school hallway, only for the girl to take her own life two days later after video of the assault began circulating social media.

My mother was a teacher. Mostly high school but been around.
She got a Masters in Special Ed. Promptly became “Teacher-in-Charge” at a mental institute. Basically a vice principal (attached to our local public school) of the emotionally disturbed high school teens there.
She continued in various SpecEd emotionally disturbed schools after a break for real estate.
Mom never had a problem. Little woman with big attitude (but heart of gold - most kids loved her). Would tell them she didn’t care what the rules are (and the kids knew the system) she’d do what she had to.
Only one time do I recall her trying just the “hug” thing and ended up sitting on the kid. That was her last school, when she was almost retired.
Someone mentioned the marine principal. My mom was like that. Kids of any kind didn’t mess with her.

In my day the way you stopped a bully is punch him in the face a couple times, I just don’t understand.
For me the "work it out" was a pair of brass knuckles. It did work, but there was a price. I was never able to ride that line again. Better then having the stuffings beat out of me or worse.
For my brother in law the "work it out" resulted in a ride in the back of a police car.
If you are going to let the kids work it out there needs to be parents there to stop it before it goes too far. Because it will go to far. You push a child far enough and their off switch gets broke.

Pro-Trump cartoonist Scott Adams pulled the mask all the way off this week, declaring on his podcast that white people should “get the hell away from Black people” while labeling African-Americans as a “hate group.”
Adams, who has written the satirical office comic strip Dilbert for more than three decades, said during his Coffee with Scott Adams online video program that current polling proves that there is “no fixing” the current racial tension in America and that whites should live in largely segregated neighborhoods.
Citing a recent Rasmussen survey showing 53 percent of Black people agree with the phrase “It’s okay to be white,” which the Anti-Defamation League has deemed a hate slogan, Adams said on Wednesday that this was the “first political poll that ever changed my activities” while launching into an overtly racist rant.
“I’ve been identifying as Black for a while because I like to be on the winning team,” the right-wing culture warrior sarcastically noted. “And I like to help. I always thought if you help the Black community, that’s sort of the biggest lever, you could find the biggest benefit.”
He added: “But it turns out that nearly half of that team doesn’t think I’m okay to be white. Which is why I identified as Black so I could be on the winning team for a while.”
Turning back to the poll results, Adams said he’s now “going to re-identify as white” because he doesn’t “want to be a member of a hate group,” which he claimed he had “accidentally joined” with his trollish Black identification. “If nearly half of all Blacks are not okay with white people—according to this poll, not according to me, according to this poll—that’s a hate group,” Adams proclaimed.
From there, Adams urged white viewers to completely segregate themselves from Black Americans.
“I would say, based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from Black people,” the 65-year-old author exclaimed. “Just get the fuck away. Wherever you have to go, just get away. Because there’s no fixing this. This can’t be fixed.”
Reiterating that whites need to “escape,” Adams said that he had already done so by moving to an area “with a very low Black population.” He then cited Black CNN anchor Don Lemon to justify his assertion that there’s a “correlation” between a “mostly Black” neighborhood and “a bunch of problems he didn’t see” in majority-white areas.
“So I don’t think it makes any sense as a white citizen of America to try to help Black citizens anymore,” Adams huffed. “It doesn’t make sense. There’s no longer a rational impulse. So I’m going to back off on being helpful to Black America because it doesn’t seem like it pays off.”
He continued: “The only outcome is I get called a racist. That’s the only outcome. It makes no sense to help Black Americans if you’re white. It’s over. Don’t even think it’s worth trying.”
Later in the program, he again said you “just need to get away from them,” especially “those who don’t want to focus on education.” Adams followed that up by saying he’s “really sick of seeing video after video of Black Americans beating up non-Black citizens,” insisting that it’s “every damn day” he sees a clip of “some Black person beating the shit out of some white person.”
The Dilbert creator has seemingly embraced more radical positions since first comparing former President Donald Trump to Jesus in late 2015. Since then, he’s openly courted controversy while dipping his toes into far-right culture war battles. Outside of peddling debunked COVID-19 cures, Adams also ludicrously predicted that if Joe Biden won the presidential election, there was a “good chance” Republicans would be hunted down and “dead within a year.”
Last year, Adams introduced a Black character for the first time in his strip’s 33-year existence, though it seemed it was largely to poke fun at “woke” culture and the LGBTQ community. The character’s plotline revolved around his identifying as white, only for management to ask if he could also identify as gay.
Amid the incorporation of the anti-”woke” plot lines, Dilbert was dropped last September from 77 newspapers by publisher Lee Enterprises. Adams, for his part, claimed the move “was part of a larger overhaul” of comic syndication.
At the same time, however, he also said it’s “possible” the strip was pulled for other reasons.
“Do you think they flipped coins to decide what to keep and what to delete? It wasn’t about popularity or cost. (That I know.),” Adams said at the time. The cartoonist has also previously claimed that his short-lived television series was canceled from UPN because he’s white.
