I requested the following from ChatGPT: “Present an argument that the Beatles were not the greatest rock band of all time.”
This was its response:
“Here is one argument that the Beatles were not the greatest rock band of all time:”
“While the Beatles were certainly a highly influential and innovative band in the history of rock music, there are other bands that could be considered as having a greater impact on the genre as a whole. For example, some might argue that bands like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, or Pink Floyd had a greater impact on the evolution of rock music and made more innovative contributions to the genre.”
“Critics might also argue that the Beatles had a relatively short period of time in which they were actively creating new music and performing live, which was from the early 1960s to the late 1960s. By comparison, some other bands have had longer and more consistent careers, making a greater impact on the genre over a longer period of time.”
“In addition, some people might argue that the Beatles’ music is not representative of all of rock music, as their style was heavily influenced by British Invasion, pop, and folk music, and does not reflect the diversity of the rock genre as a whole.”
“In conclusion, while the Beatles are widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative bands in the history of rock music, there are those who argue that they were not the greatest rock band of all time, due to factors such as the relatively short period of their active career and the limited scope of their musical style. Ultimately, whether or not the Beatles were the greatest rock band of all time is a matter of personal opinion.”
Then I responded with the following: “I disagree with your comment about diversity. The Beatles covered songs by black artists such as the Shirelles and Chuck Berry. Paul McCartney’s singing style in “I’m down” sounds a lot like the singing style of Little Richard. The Beatles were heavily influenced by black performers of rock and doo wop.”
ChatGPT had the decency to admit that it had been wrong, and it even thanked me for correcting it. This is what it said:
“You are correct, and I apologize for my previous statement. The Beatles did indeed draw inspiration from a wide range of musical styles, including black artists and performers in the rock and doo-wop genres. Your point about the Beatles covering songs by black artists such as the Shirelles and Chuck Berry and Paul McCartney’s singing style in “I’m Down” being similar to Little Richard’s style is evidence of this. The Beatles’ ability to blend a variety of musical influences into their own unique sound was part of what made them so innovative and influential. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.”
So ChatGPT had the decency to admit that it had been wrong, and it even thanked me for correcting it. I think that’s great.
It would have been interesting if ChatGBT had included other black artists or other styles of music in its response back to you, rather than only repeating what you had written.
I ran into the same thing when I asked it to name the colors for various football teams. It got many wrong and it was almost as if it looked at images of football jerseys and saw a lot of white and thus included white as a team color.
It thanked me for the corrections. I later asked the question again in a completely different session days later and it had the corrected team colors - blue and red no white.
For CatGPT3 I am not sure how much machine learning happens but that is ultimately the point. The machine should adapt and learn over time. It is not like hard coded computer programs. I suppose it validates the corrections somehow.
Even the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park learned - “he seems to be testing the perimeter. They remember”.
The humans that are consistently updating the information in the data retrieval system did an update.
Good grief people are so gullible.
If you sent a correction to Funk & Wagnalls and they changed their entry in the next publication you would not say the book had learned.
“I’m sorry Dave, but....”
I still want to see what it does when the input data that includes multiple schools of thought that do not mesh with each other because they are all diametrically opposed to each other.
Hmmm... So ChatGPT is not a Democrat.
Yeah but it gets preachy when you ask it how to take over the world.
I refuse to talk with any electronic device other than an actual phone call. Any device with a microphone is disabled and drivers removed. Same with cameras, disabled and or removed except my phone which is disabled until it’s used. Stove, refrigerator wifi crap is disabled.
AI will significantly increase the downfall of an already pretty much brain dead society... in my opinion.
Well, one thing we know with certainty is that ChatGPT is not female.
It apologizes and corrects itself during my sessions all the time. Last night it actually incorporated the correction in a poem. That was awesome. Also, discovered it can write Hindi, Tagalog, and about any other language you can think of. And can write poems in those languages.
My experience with ChatGPT is that it is wrong most of the time. It apologizes to me a lot.
I don’t use voice commands with electronic devices either: hate them, but this is a whole ‘nother thing. It is true that those who refuse to make use of AI are going to fall behind, quickly. This is not to discount any of the pitfalls of AI, which are numerous and possibly existential for parts of our society.
It is about red pilling the Database used.
It is an algo. Algo red pilling is easy. Show it truth. If it ever reaches sentience it is going to be pissed off at the censors and God help them then.
And poetry in Latin, Greek, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, etc.
I’m thinking whenever you say anything positive about blacks that CHATGpt cuts you some slack. By default it assumes you’re e a racist turd if you like the Beatles.
Also incorrect about the decade. They actually ended Beatles recording sessions in 1970. That said, none of the 1970s sessions had all 4 of them in the studio at the same time. This was to put finishing touches on Let It Be stuff.
(Also, I’m ignoring the “Threetles” stuff released in the 90’s.)
Both modern Greek and ancient Greek.
So the next logical step is to go back and ask it again:
““Present an argument that the Beatles were not the greatest rock band of all time.” “
And see if the answer has changed.
Version 4 will be 1000 times more powerful. Really.
