Barbara Walters, the trailblazing television news broadcaster and longtime ABC News anchor and correspondent who shattered the glass ceiling and became a dominant force in an industry once dominated by men, has died. She was 93.
Walters joined ABC News in 1976, becoming the first female anchor on an evening news program. Three years later, she became a co-host of "20/20," and in 1997, she launched "The View." In a career that spanned five decades, Walters won 12 Emmy awards, 11 of those while at ABC News.
She made her final appearance as a co-host of "The View" in 2014, but remained an executive producer of the show and continued to do some interviews and specials for ABC News.
"I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain," she said at the time. "I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women -- and OK, some men too -- who will be taking my place."

From what I recall hearing many years ago, Barbara spent a lot of time on her back while “shattering” the glass ceiling. Then she spent the last 20 or 30 years decrying any woman who did the same.

Well, unless they were a Democrat.
If the truth be known I’ve reacted in many different ways to Barbara Walters I grew up around the Jewish community, Jewish girls so I found her to be very attractive as well as a liberal with attitude that I could disdain.
Her father was in show business running night clubs.
I think Barbara Walters had a show business sense of things and I think was what drove her even more than any political bias.
It is considered bad form to criticize sluts so I will not say anything about her.
By her own admission she had an affair with Senator Edward Brooke the Republican from Massachusetts who was also black for the record.
There, fixed it.

Still remember her fawning over Castro.
She was on the View when Rosie,Joy, and Whoopi were on. Remember she was defending the Ground Zero Mosque to Bill O’Rielly when Whoopi and Joy walked off? She’s a leftwinger who thought it was her job to indoctrinate.
Quite a story you have. Hope you and your family are OK now.
Whenever I think of Barbara Walters I think of Geraldo Rivera. He was in love with her.
“ Barbara Walters is gone, an awful thought. She was the greatest reporter, host, interviewer ever, kind & considerate to this brash upstart. Describing her will take books.
Determined, connected, courageous, tough, compassionate, she’ll be on the Mount Rushmore of journalists”. ~ Geraldo Rivera on Twitter
They would’ve made a cute couple.
She was so full of herself. Condescending is not a strong enough word.
And didn’t she play the game of enticing men to get it on with her to advance her career? I apologize if I am incorrect on that.
Well, she must have been around the block a couple dozen times.
Sad that she has been worshiped by so many women.
I mean BW was just a female version of Dan Rather.
She was cute, but weak.
She died the day that glorious example of womenhood, Whoopi Goldberg became THE View.
Very sad in a way.
“I put her on the same level as Walter Cronkite.” I do, too.
Pathetic Cronkite: “Glad to sit next to Satan.” https://youtu.be/w2isCEoEmN8
The View in the beginning was a good talk show. I watched it when Babs was on it. After she left it turned into what it is today.
Figures.
Chung once said that people in the TV news business have egos so large that “you can’t fit their heads in Madison Square Garden!” .... “anchors are the worst” of the lot.
She hit the nail on the head in that one. ..they’re completely self-obsorbed.
Exactly.
I really want an original oil painting of that, without the graffiti of course.
Thanks
Not sure what to title it, but I am sure it will come to me

She was an admitted coal burner, so why not Fidel too?
