If extraterrestrial life sent us a message tomorrow, how would humanity respond? According to researchers, we don't know yet — and that's a problem.
That's why, for the first time in 35 years, a team of policy experts and scientists have united to establish a set of alien-contact protocols for the entire world to follow in the event of a sudden encounter with E.T.
"Science fiction is awash with explorations of the impact on human society following discovery of, and even encounters with, life or intelligence elsewhere," John Elliot, a computer scientist at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, said in a statement. Elliot is the coordinator of the University of St. Andrews' newly established SETI Detection Hub, the cross-disciplinary organization that will establish the new alien contact protocol.

Tell them their warranty is about to expire.
Good to see we’re not wasting money while we massively in debt.
We Surrender ?
End of story.
And if any alien race has the technology to get to Earth from across the cosmos, they will regard us in the same way that we regard a flea. There will be no benevolent coexistence of species as depicted on Star Trek or Babylon 5.
Collectivists never give up, do they?
How else will the rapture be (falsely) explained?
Calling them/theyselves democrat.
Just send Jo Jo’s French, Lesbian Cabbage Patch Kid over to hook up with them. She’s an expert on American lesbianism and more than likely knows all the “pronouns” they’re going to have to learn to communicate with us.
Maybe they only like dark meat
At least the U.S. taxpayers will not be shelling out for this total boondoggle.
And will the Scottish scientists be develop the protocol to answer the aliens in a Scottish accent?!?
I can seen editorial cartoonists, not to mention Babylon Bee, having a lot of fun with this announcement.
Just remember: “Klaatu! Barada nikto!”
Gee, I wonder who is paying for that and how much $$$ involved?
Remembering “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, I hope the experts make some room for the earthlings who are invited to the first meeting to get there and be part of the discussion. Just in case.
Fallen angels?
What I am referring to is the "Phenomenon."
It used to be thought of as UFOs, but now UFOs and so-called alien technology are thought to be mere facades or fronts of something much more complicated. As people who follow this stuff closely say, what used to be a mystery about metallic spaceships (UFOs) has morphed into the "Phenomenon"...and the foundation of the "Phenomenon" is the Woo.
Scientists who are studying this stuff quickly found out that there was a "hitchhiker effect" involved.
Some of the seamen and pilots onboard the Nimitz nuclear carrier who had seen the famous "tic-tacs" (from aircraft (F-18s), on radar, or gun camera videos) soon thereafter began suffering from various psychological problems, with some being followed home after separation by "orbs," little gray aliens who appear in their bedrooms, and even what, for lack of a better term, were described as "poltergeists."
I have formed no conclusions and am only an observer. That said, it is fascinating.
We already have Elvis as an ambassador.
They should include his input in any protocols.
Definite possibility. There are increasing indications that whatever is being experienced matches closely what the Bible and other extra-Biblical literature (including Sumerian/Mesopotamian literature) describe as spiritual beings.
Michael Rennie?
