New CRISPR cancer treatment tested in humans for the first time
Big Think ^ | 12/3/22 | Kristin Houser

Past studies have used the gene-editing technology CRISPR to remove genes from immune system cells to make them better at fighting cancer. Now, PACT Pharma and UCLA have used CRISPR to remove and add genes to these cells to help them recognize a patient’s specific tumor cells.

“It is probably the most complicated therapy ever attempted in the clinic,” study co-author Antoni Ribas told Nature. “We’re trying to make an army out of a patient’s own T cells.”

T cells are our immune systems’ built-in defense against cancer.

Natural cancer killers: Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells. These cells grow and multiply through cell division, and when they get old or become damaged, they die and new cells replace them.

When these T cells get rid of the tumor because they have been DNA-modified not to recognize it as part of the person’s body, what else will these T cells then decide not to recognize as part of the person’s body?

(Type 1 diabetes can occur when the person’s body mistakenly destroys its own beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin.)

If these T cells accidentally contaminate someone else, how will they treat that person’s body, and if there is a fight between the modified T cells and a person’s own T cells, who will win?

Genetically modifying T cells to fight cancer is not new. Been going on for over a decade with great success (CAR-T cell therapy). What’s different is they are using a tool called CRISPR as opposed to the traditional TALEN for gene editing.

No thanks, I’ll go with the Joe Tippins cancer treatment protocol.

Severe side effects (less than 0.002%): extreme psychosis, mania, greatly increased metabolism, Tachypnea, Hyperphagia, Hypersalivation, Cannibalism. If you or someone you know have any of these severe side effects seek immediate medical attention.

Those of us with cancer hope this works out.

Those who are zealously opposed to vaxxes would shut it down and imprison all involved.

There’s a guy in town here that has his car painted up ‘Umbrella Corporation”. Very professionally done too.

I have a friend who has cancer who would like to try this procedure but the Doctor says he’s too weak, he has to get stronger first.

Meanwhile, this is interesting...

Enhanced High Mutation Rate and Natural Selection to Produce Attenuated Viral Vaccine with CRISPR Toolkit in RNA Viruses especially SARS-CoV-2

...Live attenuated vaccines are the best vaccines with a high level of creating immunity. The main problem with making these vaccines is time and the high cost of producing these viruses. By creating a random mutation in the genome of viruses by the CRISPR toolkit and selecting a live attenuated virus adapted to non-permissive cells, we can get these viruses at a low cost and high production speed...

I completely agree. Almost 18 months ago my wife was diagnosed with a massive glioblastoma tumor. There was a 5mm tumor remaining after surgery. I started her on fenbendazole halfway through the radiation/chemo treatments. The oncologists warned us that the MRI after the treatment would make the tumor look larger and be prepared. It was 40% smaller. She has been cancer free for over a year now. According to her oncologist, the tumor should not have disappeared with the treatments because of its genetic type, unmethylated wildtype doesn’t respond well to the standard treatment. She should be dying by now, instead they are now talking about lengthening the time between MRIs amd she has returned to about 90% normal.

I have had mycancerstory.rocks pinned to my browser for a long time. Send the link to people I know who get diagnosed with the dreaded “C”.
