Ron DeSantis And Gavin Newsom: What Will They Do In 2024?
19FortyFive ^ | 11/27/2022 | W. James Antle

Now all eyes are on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. He is also coming off a big reelection win in a state that has become a symbol of his party’s governance nationwide. He and Newsom were putting themselves in position to run for president while respecting the frontrunner status of former President Donald Trump and Biden, respectively.

Though weakened by the midterms, Trump has already announced he is running for president again in 2024. Biden was strengthened by them, and while a final decision is still forthcoming, he appears to be leaning heavily in favor of seeking a second term.

Well, central_va, you’re gonna have to talk to them. In the meantime, why don’t you dial down the self-destructive invective towards DeSantis — you are aiding and abetting the enemy. Rein it in, for all our sakes. It’s going to be a very long two years. Save your strength for the adversary.

Yep, Desantis is great as governor of Florida.
Even Yeb Bush wasn’t half bad at the same job.

A robust primary always is best
I think trump was an imperfect man at a perfect time (Churchillian)
Times have changed. The intranacine fighting only hurts us. Let everyone who has a voice fight it out

What amazes me is the most vocal only trump folk and don’t want us to have a choice are also the q continuum who daily rail against the vaccines. Operation warp speed was trump and it was brilliant. You don’t think that the left will pick up on Q attacking vaccines but supporting trump.

With fiends like them, who need enemas?

As for 24, the people like Jeb Bush and Paul Ryan line up behind him and all it says to me is the uniparty came up with a price my Gov liked.

Just another reason for him to keep governing our great state until 2028. Make Florida Even Greater (Again), then run for President.

I have been following the argument here so I have some middle of the road unemotional questions. I think robust debate is important. I am kicking around early on who to support in a primary. I love trump but I the middle independents who are the swing voters have a particular disdain for him. This the reason I am concerned. He is spot on as a conservative populist but he was a one term president and even with his wild success the votes was too close. Reagan won 80 in a closer election but had a total romp in 84 winning everyone but Minnesota (hone of Mondale) and DC

Trump should have put up those kinds of numbers.

So my questions

1. Biden is incumbent. If he runs does he get primaried? If he doesn’t run who is the primary field for the rats?

2. Did trump declare to be the heir apparent (pseudo incumbent) assuming no one would run against him?

3. Who will be on the first primary republican debate stage?

Let the games begin.

You seem to have annoyed the only-Trumpers with your post. Good work!

Trump did a great job for 3 years and then had a disaster with his warped-vision vaccine, which he still insists is one of the great achievements of humanity. I love happy endings, but I don’t see a political happy ending for Trump. Or maybe it will come when Mt. Rushmore is renamed Mt. Trump, in recognition of his 3 great years as President.

DeSantis really should reconsider lowering tariffs universally like that. It’s precisely because China, Russia and certain other countries are bad actors is why I would be tariffing them at least 25% across the board, something even Trump didn’t do.

Furthermore, trading partners cheat, and imposing higher tariffs on the goods in question is one way to attempt to set them straight.

And for inspections of imports at ports, guess which tax is most logical to fund that? A low, general, universal tariff on all imported goods. Hopefully, that would be no more than 2%, but the more robust the inspections process, the higher the tariff would need to be to fund it.

I’m a fan of global free trade as a concept. But then there’s the actual reality, and we must make accommodations for that. Tariffs are a useful tool for that, IMO.

Trump endorsed DeSantis, who you claim is GOPe.

Trump endorsed McCarthy, who you claim is GOPe.

Trump endorsed McDaniel, who you claim is GOPe.

You support Trump, but claim you are against GOPe.

The way I look at it is that there is a continuum, from ultra hard right to ultra hard left. A Republican more to left than I am may still prefer a conservative Republican to a left-wing Democrat.

Remember Desantis is same guy who put illegal aliens being inflicted on Florida’s on a freaking plane to Martha’s Vineyard. That is a gold medal troll. It really does negate that he is elite GOP who embrace border crossers.

DeSantis who fought in the military was military intelligence is a natural leader and knows the value of not blowing one’s own wiener off. If the tariff issue is a problem and politics is the art is the possible why not let DeSantis get elected and make trump the secretary of the treasury.

The establishment lines up behind anyone who can win.

They lined up behind Trump and they lined up behind Reagan, despite first opposing them.

Just because many are flocking to DeSantis does not mean DeSantis is a RINO.

The jury is still out on DeSantis. He can be another Cruz or the next Reagan. I have not made up my mind for sure.

Like I said, my good fellow, you need to take it up with them. You keep acting like these folks are following my orders or something. I don't know where you get that idea.

That said -- agreed. Name-calling from either side is just making Marxists smile right about now; I sure wish Mr. Trump would cease and desist. Initially, I was responding to specific comments by you, central_va, about DeSantis being a "globalist free traitor" who "would never stand up to China". You were spouting and I called you on it. You do certainly seem to spend a lot of time on FR doing this sort of thing.

Because Desantis is weak in many areas and the RINOs are going to be backing him. There is a political a train wreck coming and Desantis is driving.

Any two-some Newsom?

I think that the candidate for President from the D’s will have to be a minority. If Gavin runs, it is entirely possible that he is politicaly suicided, or RFK’d. The lefts hold on power is getting to such a point, that they won’t allow their plan to be subsumed.

The way I look at it there’s the Uniparty, and there’s us. I will not vote for the Uniparty nor anyone the Uniparty supports when there is another choice.

I can’t recall saying anything negative about Donald during the last couple days. So your characterization of “7x24 Trump bashing” is inaccurate.

I’ve been fully aware of Trump since at least 40 years ago when he was building casinos in Atlantic City and rebuilding Wollman Rink in Central Park.

It is amazing that someone with his track record of personal immorality and professional failure has become an icon for alleged conservatives.
