It Was Never About Ukraine
New Kontinent ^ | 11/24/22 | Ted Snider

In his March 21 press briefing, State Department spokesman Ned Price told the gathered reporters that “President Zelenskyy has also made it very clear that he is open to a diplomatic solution that does not compromise the core principles at the heart of the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine.” A reporter asked Price, “What are you saying about your support for a negotiated settlement à la Zelenskyy, but on whose principles?” In what still may be the most remarkable statement of the war, Price responded, “this is a war that is in many ways bigger than Russia, it’s bigger than Ukraine.”

The war in Ukraine has never been just about Ukraine. It has always been “bigger than Ukraine” and about US principles that are bigger than Ukraine and “in many ways bigger than Russia.” Ukraine is where Russia drew the line on the US led unipolar world and where the US chose to fight the battle for hegemony. That battle is acutely about Russia but, in the long-term, it is about China, “the most comprehensive and serious challenge” to US hegemony.

China is the one who benefits the most from the Ukraine war.

Russia, Europe, the United States, all become weaker as China watches from afar, smiling.

The Chinese have a name for this:

Sitting on a mountain, watching two tigers fight.

Another worthy column:

Pepe Escobar: Electric Wars

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-electric-wars

Spare a thought to the Polish farmer snapping pics of a missile wreckage – later indicated to belong to a Ukrainian S-300. So a Polish farmer, his footfalls echoing in our collective memory, may have saved the world from WWIII – unleashed via a tawdry plot concocted by Anglo-American “intelligence”.

Such tawdriness was compounded by a ridiculous cover-up: the Ukrainians were firing on Russian missiles from a direction that they could not possibly be coming from. That is: Poland. And then the U.S. Secretary of Defense, weapons peddler Lloyd “Raytheon” Austin, sentenced Russia was to blame anyway, because his Kiev vassals were shooting at Russian missiles that should not have been in the air (and they were not).

Call it the Pentagon elevating bald lying into a rather shabby art.

The Anglo-American purpose of this racket was to generate a “world crisis” against Russia. It’s been exposed – this time. That does not mean the usual suspects won’t try it again. Soon.

The main reason is panic. Collective West intel sees how Moscow is finally mobilizing their army – ready to hit the ground next month – while knocking out Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure as a form of Chinese torture.

>> "Russia, Europe, the United States, all become weaker as China watches from afar, smiling." <<

No, this is the rise of Eurasia, and the potential end of the American/Western G-7 unipolar world.

It's the mother of all Thucydides Traps.

Mackinder wrote his Heartland thesis around 1902, during the time of the Tsars. It never changed, even across 75 years of Soviet Communism, and it has still not changed today, in the Russian post-USSR era.

In the British era, we called it "The Great Game," where Britain always took the side against any empire positioned to dominate Europe and Central Asia. (At the time, East Asia was too distant and disconnected to consider in the 19ths century "Great Game" context.)

Today, Mackinder's "Eurasian Heartland theory" is front and center, and it explains U.S. actions from Ukraine to Syria and elsewhere.

This war is all about bottling Russia up denying her the warm waiter ports that she depends on.

That is a vital national interest.

This is the punishment the Globalists have inflicted on Russia for denying their designs for a one world government and becoming a de facto Christian nation.

When you mass NATO armor all along the frontier and the acknowledged leader of the offensive behemoth starts saber rattling about “regime change in Moscow”, I can see where Ivan 1 liter might see that this is not about the Ukes at all.

US led unipolar world and where the US chose to fight the battle for hegemony.

It wasn't a battle to preserve hegemony. It was the opening salvo in the battle go break-up and takeover Russia and turn its industry into subsidiaries of the west - like we are discovering happened to the useless hollowed out corrupt Ukrainian military industrial complex.

China is in deep doo doo economically.
No GDP numbers released for three straight quarters.
A housing bubble, lockdowns, and Bank of China issues.
If a global economic crash happens, even fewer Americans will give a damn about Ukraine.

This just proves how stupid our leadership really is, because we could have become allies with Russia very easily. But that alliance is rapidly becoming a non reality due to the belligerence we express towards Russia. So, they are pushing Russia into cooperation with China, even though I honestly believe that Russia distrusts China as much as they distrust us now.

Long term, possibly, but China does not hold all the aces. It has a large and intelligent population, but many geo-political factors work against its rise to permanent global dominance. Not saying it can't happen, just that it's not a sure bet.

Russia stands to benefit enormously as the resource storehouse and connecting tissue of a Eurasian economic bloc based on internal lines of communication, no longer stymied by American/Western sea power.

This is why America is fighting a proxy war in Ukraine against Russia, and a secret war in eastern Syria, against Iran.

It's the old British Empire "Great Game" updated to a global scale. See the Mackinder "Eurasian Heartland Theory" stuff above to Mark Twain.

That's probably right -- it's about money. Every decision the elite or politicians make is about money, or wealth. Every single one. They only want control because it allows them to grow or protect their wealth.

Putin sees where the West is headed with Green energy initiatives, especially battery tech, and if I understand correctly eastern Ukraine is rich with Lithium. If he controls that, he controls a vast amount of the West's energy policy. And it makes him or his oligarch friends even wealthier.

And now the West is even proposing to make their military vehicles EVs. Ludicrous, and Putin will be laughing all the way to the bank. Our electronics will be made in China, and our EV batteries will be made in Russia.

Honestly, regarding the invasion, it's the only thing that really makes sense to me. Otherwise, I don't understand it at all. Just my two cents, and I won't even charge you that...
