Some recent posts by Laz indicated he's seriously pondering Going Galt, and that the electoral process is beyond fixable. He was heartened by Trump's presidential tone in his candidacy announcement. Still, the Gulch beckons.

There IS a way to address the mail-in ballot problem (see this detailed post on the subject) and Diana in Wisconsin played a part in that success. It's tough, labor-intensitve work, but it's possible.
After the 2020 debacle, SamAdams76 made a post that went something like "I'm going to focus temporarily on other things in life, like music, food... anything other than R and D and politics." It registered with me, like the "taking a break" on Friends. Tapping the brakes. Call it what you want.
It worked.
But here we go again.
Now Laz and Sam and most of you have been on FR for a long time and I'm a relative NOOB. That doesn't mean I just started thinking Deplorably on my Joined date. That said, some people are REALLY in the weeds, have seen terrible things, and disillusionment is real easy nowadays.
The bigger problem, which transcends our Constitutionally limed Democratic Republican form of governance, is the seeming evaporation of our American spirit. Day in, day out, article after article paints a picture of youths enamored with socialism, society wanting cradle-to-grave statism, brother hating brother, and a loss of humanity. The whole Russia/Ukraine conflict has spawned infighting, with long time FRiends accusing each other of being Deep State plants.
To use the vernacular, it's a real bummer, dude.
I'm not a sage, I'm just a dopey guy who has a witty or mildly intelligent remark every now and then. But I DO have The Holy Trinity. And Jesus commanded us, via parable, to not bury our talents. However, even he was asleep in the boat. Rest is needed for the battle before us.
And it sure looked glum in 1979 with Carter, 9/11/2001, and election night 2016. I've seen this movie before.

As long as I can breathe, I won't surrender to the forces of statism, I won't yield to the siren song of complacency, I won't give in to the nattering nabobs of negativity. I'll remember that you need love AND justice. I will make course corrections. I may even think more about Zappa than The Legislature for a while. Ultimately, I will ensure my eyes are fixed on God (that's from metmom), Family, Friends, Coworkers, Nation, and somewhere down the line me. Because this isn't about me.
Laz, et al...you've earned your disillusionment. Just know, you're in good company. Even the Saints spoke of weariness. Bu we know that He (and we) win ultimately.
