The 8th Circuit US Appeals Court blocked Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program on Friday afternoon.

The court granted an emergency stay barring the discharge of any student debt until the court decides on a request for a longer-term injunction.

Reuters reported:

A U.S. appeals court on Friday temporarily blocked President Joe Biden’s plan to cancel billions of dollars in college student debt, one day after a judge dismissed a Republican-led lawsuit by six states challenging the loan-forgiveness program.

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted an emergency stay barring the discharge of any student debt under the program until the court rules on the states’ request for a longer-term injunction while Thursday’s decision against them is appealed.

The St. Louis-based appeals court also ordered an expedited briefing schedule on the matter

Better news will be if Republicans take congress and senate and end Biden’s spending money we don’t have and get oil flowing again.

Nobody is forced to take out a loan for college. Buyer beware. My son just took out a $5500 college loan and there are disclosures and warnings and payment estimates over time all over the place.

****************************************

He must of went to a one of the few colleges that give out the terms.
In both my daughters colleges (different schools) they literally just had a box to check.

“Check here to accept loans”

“Check here to accept grants”

I couldn’t believe it. You had to sign in to the government site to find the terms. There are a lot of predatory schools out there, and these kids have no idea the debt they are getting themselves into by checking the box.

These are the schools that should be on the hook for the student loan debt, not the taxpayers.

Yes but your son also DID sign a promissory note that states “I promise to repay…” all student loans have a prom note which is legally binding, just like a mortgage. But I agree schools should have more skin in the game. Many are ripoffs.

It was my daughters, and they never took out student loans. My one daughter wanted to go away to college, but changed her mind when I showed her the terms of the loan.

However, it really opened my eyes on how these colleges prey on these kids that don’t know any better.
It also explained on how these kids get are able to get into into such debt, and don’t have a clue on the repayment terms.

I’m glad your son’s college was upfront about the cost, but many schools are not.

They couldn’t get away with this for any other kind of loan.

Every loan I have ever taken out clearly explains the terms. The colleges should be forced to do the same, or pay the consequences if the kid defaults.

You didn’t uderstand. The school was requiring that each student fill out the application whether they wanted a loan or not at East Carolina University back 2008. I pushed back when the school administrative office called at my office in American Embassy Georgetown, Guyana and told them no way we return anything but a blank form. This incident wasn’t resolved with that single call from them. The following year I was back on home leave when my went back to school and I went to the school with him when he filled out the paperwork... again there was the Student Loan Application in the forms the school wanted signed and returned after filling them out. The schools did underhanded things like this and some parents later find out somehow the kids are getting the loans; the schools are pushing them.
