They’ve always mostly a ‘Libertine Party’ then a Libertarian Party.

“If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals — if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.”

Ronald Reagan

They’re upset because the more responsible libertarian Mises Caucus took over.

“Oliver North would have been a Senator if it weren’t for the losertarians.”

So, they aren’t a complete loss then.

” They are more interested in ideological purity than they are with the responsibility of actually governing.”

You mean like FR?

I am glad to the losertarian party imploding. They only help Democrats get elected anyway.

The Democrats probably would not have been in control of the Senate in 2021 and 2022 if the Libertarian candidate for Senate in Georgia in 2020 had not siphoned off enough votes from the Republican to force a run-off election (which the Democrat won).

We need a Constitution Party as a sub-set of the various states’ Republican Parties. Ron Paul was an example. The 16th, and probably the 17th and 19th Amendments were mistakes. As far as the 19th, some family history; my grand mother was an ardent feminist. My mother’s high school year book (The Brecky) said she was going to dedicate her life to woman’s suffrage. In her eighties, she confided in me that she thought the 19th Amendment was a mistake.

Those guys cling to that little out of context piece of a 1975 interview by libertarians of Reagan, like it is the only thing to cling to.

It is, the rest of the quote and the interview moves Reagan away from the libertarians that were interviewing him that day in 1975.

Libertarians put Patty Murray into the Senate, and she has been there ever since.

“Libertarian Party Faces State Rebellions”

How can the Democrats win close elections if the Libertarians aren’t there to scoop up votes from Republican ‘Purists’?

Let’s get this straight - it’s LIBERALTARIANISM. These people are just Democrat/communists that are too embarrassed to admit what they are.
When a Republican loses a close race where the Liberaltarian takes a few points that, added to the Republican’s total could have meant victory, the uninitiated cry that the Liberaltarians gave the election to the Democrat/communists.
Not true.

The votes of the Liberaltarians are actually rodent votes and were NEVER on the table for Republicans.

The Liberaltarians are divas that enjoy the attention at America’s expense.

Maybe these two state parties are realizing that it is time to go home to the rodents - stay home - or vote to actually support the fight to save America.

Reagan was a conservative, not a Libertarian.

What gets missed is that the Libertarian party has right and left wings. The left wing is socially liberal and inconsistent in its commitment to limited government and individual liberty. The right wing is socially conservative and consistent in its commitment to these things.

Decades ago I lived in the same town as the Libertarian Party chairman of my state, and he used to walk around with a pocket copy of the Constitution. He was a true constitutionalist and a pro gun limited government kind of guy who would have fit right in on FR. I have no doubt that the liberal CA Libertarian Party types probably hated his guts.

I don’t keep up with the Libertarians any more but it sounds like they’ve split along those lines. Wouldn’t surprise me if COVID did it. The left wingers were probably fine with the lockdowns while the right wingers found them anathema. It would be the perfect issue to bring their irreconcilable differences to a head.

Look at their party platform, in recent years they have made it very vague in wording, but their positions are the same and a conservative can read them and know what they mean, for open borders for example.

Classic example is a certain troll on the Pennsylvania board who is more interested in trashing Dr. Oz than pointing out the far worse alternative we have with a pothead communist spoiled rich boy who wants to graduate from living off his daddy to living off the taxpayers.

Almost all the libertarians I personally knew were into libertarianism for drug legalization. They were huge potheads. I don’t think I ever saw them sober. The strangest libertarian I ever met called himself a libertarian because if he called himself what he was an anarchist he’d likely lose his job. You’re not going to believe this, but I swear its true and I am certain he wasn’t kidding me. He was an Air Force Captain an academy grad. Computer geek maybe that had something to do with his views. Very strange guy! I worked on a DOD contract with him. The few constitutional oriented libertarians I knew are now all Republicans.

Forget “A Chicken in Every Pot”, Libertarians want “Pot in Every Chicken”.

Sounds like the potheads have left for the Democrat Party and the Libertarian party has been taken over by Paulistinians.
