Applications for Global Entry are currently taking anywhere from 6-18 months to process.
The Department of Homeland Security is encouraging travelers who mostly fly domestic to skip Global Entry and opt for TSA PreCheck instead amid long application wait times that can stretch up to more than a year.
“If you do not travel multiple times per year internationally, we recommend applying for the TSA PreCheck Program,” DHS wrote on its website. “Most TSA PreCheck applicants can schedule an appointment in less than 2 weeks and, if approved, can receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) in about 3 to 5 days after the appointment.”
Federal officials have struggled to keep up with Global Entry applications — a program in which pre-screened international travelers can skip the customs line — since the pandemic forced a five month closure in March 2020, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

So naturally the GVT is f@@king it up.
I miss walking out on the tarmac at Burbank airport to board a 727 up the rear stairs. No metal detectors, no questions to answer, no searches of carry-ons. Just buy the ticket at the counter and walk out to the plane.
Thank you, mooselimbs.
Exactly.
Everything the government touches gets eff’d up. TSA? Seriously, how forgetful are we in not bashing this bunch of lazy ass union pieces of excrement every chance we get. We didn’t want them to begin with. They can’t do their jobs now. Put them on the list to shutter. There’s a huge demand for mall cops.
Were interviewed and photographed by customs/immigration agent when returning from next foreign trip. Received the cards by mail in less than a week.
My father was a pilot for Braniff. We used to get to go up into the cockpit and look around.
I did that numerous times. That is why I flew into Burbank. It was like the good old days.
I had to renew my Global Entry status this June. I was immediately conditionally approved, but required to re-interview.
OK ... I asked for first available appointment at ATL (this was June).
The first available was 13 Sept.
On 25 Aug at 10 PM I got an email my appointment was canceled and I needed to reschedule or lose my re-up.
The NEXT AVAILABLE appointment was APRIL 2023.
Yeah, they screwed it up.

You ain’t seen nothing, yet. Just wait until they provide all energy, all health care, all “means of production,” etc.
Now, so many people have TSA PreCheck the lines are getting longer, and it’s losing its advantage.
Yeah, I have TSA PRE. Didn’t do me a lot of good because only certain gates are designed to let you keep your shoes on and keep your laptop in the bag. Just another way for the government to reach into your pocket for some promised benefit they don’t intend to deliver.
Check other places, especially if you are traveling somewhere. I couldn’t get an appointment at DTW, however they had openings at the Ambassador Bridge to Canada. I once had a renewal appointment at LAX during a 3 hour layover, unfortunately the flight was delayed and I missed it.
So there are appointments available at other than airports.
Luckily I have a credit card that reimburses me for it, and Global Entry.
...for renewal, just go by the office next time you are near the airport. My wife just renewed by popping in, and had NO wait time for confirming her name change. I renewed online with an update even though my original card expired last Feb. Got approved status in two days online. Only need to cough up $25 for new card, which I don’t really need since my passport info is whats used when we reenter to clear customs and my info is updated in the system for PreCheck... good luck, but I wouldn’t wait. (this was in Austin TX)
Wait until you try to renew it. Good luck on that!
Global Entry is worldwide and NOT run by TSA.
I found Global Entry people to be very professional and very respectful of my time.
There is a reason we say TSA stands for Thousands Standing Around.
Thousands of TSA agents standing around trying to look important.
In my opinion, PreCheck was much better and more efficient. I got Global Entry and I spent twice as much time in line and also it was much more invasive in terms of personal data.
Worth a shot. Thanks
I tried for a year to get an appointment in Atlanta ...
None were open ...
I often get given TSA PreCheck for free ...
