"The Michael Jordan of basketball before Michael Jordan was Michael Jordan (take THAT search engines), Julius Erving finally had his amazing genius (with a basketball) proven to the entire world when the NBA, for some reason that escapes us, decided to stop playing games and belatedly forbid anyone else from wearing his #6 forever!
Julius started dunking as a little boy, first with donuts in milk. Later he dunked like Forrest Gump ran, everywhere and on everyone. And name anyone else who can sign their own dunk mid click! You can’t!
And he did it not just once, but TWICE!
Whenever he played, the crowed would chant SIX, SIX,..."

The hypocrisy shown by leftists never stops.
I think I still have a Julius Erving rookie card from when I was a kid. Wonder if it’s worth much...
They keep doing that a d eventually will run out of one and two-digit numbers.....................
The league needs to rename itself:
666!
Not sure I understand your message for this article.
I was a kid in Philly and I watched him play-—That’s when I LOVED basketball and all sports. I despise it now-——and I will never watch another game.

Well that begin using the alphabet as the beginning.
It was Bill Russell whose number 6 was retired by the league. This is some kind of weird jock humor, or an attempt at it.
Then I realized the author was giving a little fun with us because the NBA just retired the number 6 to honor Bill Russell, not Dr. J.
I totally missed that it was a facetious piece.
This is the first time a number has been retired across the whole league, so it’ll be a while before they run out. I guess the Celtics will run out first. It looks like more of the numbers from 1 to 25 or 35 have been retired than are still available.
Virtue signaling.
FU NBA. Move to Red China.
They retired Bill Russell’s number not Dr J’s.
He was a Christian man who came to several Christian retreats to give testimony and showcase his skills and teach young folks how to play
“It was Bill Russell whose number 6 was retired by the league. This is some kind of weird jock humor, or an attempt at it.”
That is just what I was wondering.
Two points:
1. Although Bill Russell was great—definitely one of the greatest of all time—I don’t think that either he nor Michael Jordan were THE greatest. I think that title belongs to Wilt Chamberlain. They changed the rules of the game because of him. Younger folks almost always choose someone in their own generation as the greatest. I remember a poll conducted of the ten greatest baseball players of all time. Nine of the ten on the list were active players. Neither Lou Gehrig nor Willie Mays made the list. That foolishness and naivety just doesn’t get the big picture. And Wilt is gradually disappearing from memory.
2. The ABA and NBA eventually united almost certainly and almost entirely because of Julius Erving. It was a bit awkward watching NBA games, including the playoffs, and realizing that the best active player wasn’t even in the league. Something had to be done.
Uhh folks the number 6 being retired is for the late Bill Russell. NOT Dr. J.
