But in one very important way, gay marriage will not quite be marriage even in New York, even 30 days from now when the law goes into effect. That is because the psycho-sexual-financial-commercial-legal dramas that entangle the domestic lives of straight people often have another component: religion. And religious institutions have an exemption in the new law over accommodating gay people. It was key to the passage of the legislation.
Marriage without a church or temple wedding isn't the real thing. Why can some people have all the bells and whistles in the church of their choice but not me? Of course, there have been and will be congregations and churches that allow gay men and lesbians to be married in their midst and to bless those unions, recognizing that God loves them just as much as Governor Andrew Cuomo does. But some rich and influential religious institutions are not only free to continue to reject gay men and women as equal beneficiaries of all aspects of faith but will now also rally their congregants to reject politicians who are willing to abide with this extension of secular civil rights — no matter how much acceptance there is of same-sex marriage elsewhere, no matter how many wedding announcements appear in the New York Times.

Old time-ish FReepers may recall one or the other other times when I've posted this piece.
I am re-posting this article to remind all of us that the agenda of the Sodom & Gomorrah movement is not that we just tolerate and leave them alone, but for total domination. In the case of marriage, they ultimately won't be satisfied until they can be married in St Patrick's Cathedral in NYC or the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC (with, of course, the applicable archbishop presiding over the abomination).
They have been increasing in their intensity in recent years. How many of us remember during the 2020 election cycle when multiple Democratic candidates proffered the idea that churches that do not recognize "same sex marriage" 🤮 have their tax exempt status removed? For example, here is Fracis "Beta" O'Rourke: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/o-rourke-says-churches-against-gay-marriage-should-lose-tax-n1065186
And, of course, the Pervert in Chief has now mandated that religious schools allow boys to use girls' bathrooms or have their school lunch program and milk programs defunded.
You may say, "My church will never allow this! I won't attend a church that does!" or "I homeschool my kids, not my issue"...but this is a culture war and the Overton Window is continuing to shift and an increasingly fast pace. Many Republicans have absolutely no problem with what's happened to date (even though it would be fruitless, have any Repukes in Congress introduced legislation to overrule Biden's regulation about school bathrooms? How many co-sponsors? Can you list them please???)
We can't simply bury our heads in the sand. This is a culture war and, to be honest, our side is losing. Badly. The tragedy is that, when actually exposed to the facts of the situation, the majority of the populace are on our side...
Sounds difficult to “Be Fruitful and Multiply” with feces all over you.
What can we do when our own prelates are embracing Sodom?
Today is St. Charles Luwanga and companions feast day. They died as martyrs defying the lusts of a sodomical king. Do you think his feast was celebrated in Rome today?
The left hates any restriction on any sexual impulse.
For this reason, they hate Christianity.
They are pushing for full "Brave New World". (With support from Orwell's 1984)
Awwww. Bless ya li'tl ol' heart. Mean ol' Christians..
Hey honey, if yer wantin' a religious cerermony stop on down at the local mosque and see if they'll help ya get those bells-n-whistles. The left seems to think they're just dandy so mebbe they'll be more "inclusive". d:^)
‘End game’?
A Lutheran church near me flies a rainbow flag, a tranny flag, and a BLM flag.
Gays have every right to get married and be as miserable as every one else ....
It was always simple.
If I wanted to get married in a nice synagogue.. we would have to convert.
Churches can turn you down if you aren’t their religion, or don’t practice religion or practice something outside of the teachings... like that inhuman harpy pelosi.
And if gays reject the church and the church rejects the gays then there should be no problem.
If you want the ring, buy the rings. Pledge yourself to another. You want a party? A gay will get a party.
So what’s the big deal?
Taxes. Insurance. Money.
All gay marriage is about monetary benefit. End of line.
They can change their name at any time. They can wear a ring. They can pledge themselves everlasting without a priest or rabbi. They don’t respect those authorities anyway, so they aren’t looking for their approval.
It’s all about the benefits.
It’s all about the benefits.
I think there are no benefits that one needs to be married fore. Except social security.
Any idea what this jerk means when he calls himself a “deeply religious Christian”?
As one who, along with many others, endured both the McKarrick and Wuerl eras in the Archdiocese of Washington, I sympathize with the plight. (NB:yes, I know there were/are far worse dioceses in the US).
One thing I learned relatively early on in that time is that no bishop can change the Magesterium. Heresy is heresy, no matter whether it comes from AOC or the Bishop of Rome. And God gave us all brains and thankfully we now have the Internet where we can do a ton of study using original texts ourselves.
And, frankly, I think we can actually learn something from our Protestant brethren. You and I over the years have engaged enough on the religion forum where we've heard enough times, "just because Reverend Jim Bob says something don't make it the word of God..." I think we need to say "just because Bishop Borgia or Pope Caligula say something, doesn't mean that it's in the Magesterium."
And I'm not saying that our saying that should be in the RF (something that I have 99% given up on). But in our day-to-day existence. If the celebrant at Mass says that Mary had multiple abortions and therefore all women in the parish should do so as well, we need to forcefully confront the statement. Both with family and also with others in the parish (and I use a ridiculous example but it would likely be a little more subtle than that in the real world).
Don't know about you, but I think the Church in the West needs a serious reformation and possibly some non-trivial persecution in order to cleanse away impurities that have gathered on her for the past several centuries.
“All gay marriage is about monetary benefit. End of line.”
Far from it.
It is about ATTACKING institutions such as churches, schools, and businesses. And filing lawsuits to force others to participate, celebrate, and endorse their perversion.
It is also about legal rights going far beyond property. It is about child custody. They want access to children. They treat children as property, no different than historical slavery in America. They want to be able to buy and sell children.
Whether that is to feel more normal or for more deviant reasons is not the point. The child’s interests take a backseat to putting butt sex (or other perverted forms) on a pedestal. The feelings of homosexuals are paramount. The world must revolve around their wants.
(Marriage without a church or temple wedding isn’t the real thing. Why can some people have all the bells and whistles in the church of their choice but not me?)
Ah, he wrote the word “me”.
Explains everything.
The teachings of the Bible, Judeo-Christian tradition, flat-out rejects homosexual behavior. No homosexual weddings. He’s demanding that Judeo-Christian teachings change to accommodate his desires. Too bad.
SF Bay Area used to have its own homosexual church, the Metropolitan Community Church. I haven’t heard much about it in recent years, probably because the homosexual lobby has successfully infiltrated and infected most mainline churches in this area and the country.
I don’t think ANY major religion in the world endorses homosexual behavior. In addition to Christianity and Judaism, I know that Islam doesn’t approve of it. I’m 99.5% sure that neither Hinduism nor Buddhism approve either (I live in a country that is 90% Theravada Buddhist)
The reason is simple: the practice violates the basic natural law and is antithetical to basic biological survival. Of course God is going to say it’s offensive. Who designed the reproductive system in all creatures?
Note that there are some tantric sects within Hinduism that are “do whatever you want,” but those are firmly rejected by the vast majority of Hindus and who have the majority of their followers in the West.
The Bible makes that rather clear - what marriage is, why it was created, and its role in creation. Not ambiguous in the least.
Claiming to be “deeply religious” while flouting a provision that is pretty emphatically laid down in the bible at several key points. Need to find another religion in which to be “deeply religious.” Islam maybe?
my gay bil is so afraid that when they repeal Roe that “they’ll” come after gay marriage next.....lol.....
