A Pennsylvania man who sought treatment for jaw pain, killed his chiropractor by fracturing his skull and hitting him in the jaw with a blunt object.
Joseph O’Boyle, 23, blamed his chiropractor Dr. James Sowa, 64, for worsening his jaw pain, according to his family.
Surveillance video from November 2020 shows O’Boyle arriving to Dr. Sowa’s office on the day of the murder and fleeing the scene one minute later.
One week after the murder, law enforcement served O’Boyle a search warrant at his home and that’s when he lunged at a detective a repeatedly punched him in the head.
Fox News reported:
A Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty to criminal homicide and other charges on Friday for murdering a chiropractor in November 2020.
Joseph O’Boyle, 23, will be sentenced in the coming months for criminal homicide, criminal trespassing, and possession of an instrument of crime. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, as well as recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest and simple assault, for punching a detective who was investigating the chiropractor’s murder.
Dr. James Sowa, 64, was found dead inside his home and chiropractic office on Nov. 2 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, a town about 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
O’Boyle had been a patient of Sowa’s two months earlier and blamed the chiropractor for worsening his jaw pain, according to his relatives

Well, his jaw hurts.
He is in excruciating pain…
Taking “a tooth for a tooth” a step too far.
A firing squad would quickly wipe the scowl off his face. This killer should face quick execution.
Let’s see. Chiropractors are for the back right? What does it have to do with the jaw?
He looks as mad as a CNN reporter who just heard Trump has been re-elected. His on-air profanity laden response was nothing but a series of loud Bleeper-BEEPS.
Ok, but was he a democrat???
I’d like to know if they will diagnose the jaw problem.
I’ve suffered from trigeminal neuralgia (Tic Douloureux)
- they call it the ‘suicide disease’, because so many have killed themselves over the pain.
I was told for a couple of years that it was caused by a jaw problem, and went through useless treatments for that.
I was never inspired to kill anyone, though - I just kept going to doctors until one finally figured it out. But it’s an absolutely horrible problem; when it hits, all you can do is curl up in a ball and shudder. Drugs don’t touch it.
Lol
Good question!
That’s what I’d like to know.
Chiropractors treat the spine entirely. They do neck adjustments, too.
I’ve gotten a lot of benefit from them.

Different states allow different areas to be adjusted. I don’t know anything further.
I had jaw pain in late 2020 and went to our longtime dentist. She said it was from grinding my teeth at night. “Well, I don’t think I’ve ever done that before.” She replied “I know you haven’t - we check your teeth for grinding. But since the pandemic we have seen a LOT of this. Stress. I’ll make you a night guard.” (Hmm - I wore it for quite awhile but haven’t worn it lately, but no jaw aches.)
Our longtime physical therapist helped with my daughter’s terrible headaches. Doctor after doctor tried to help her, and she was about to go in for a round of expensive MRI’s and CAT scans. I told my wife we should take her to the therapist.
He diagnosed that her jaw was out of alignment. Under the table he works with another dentist to correct the problem. He and the other dentist had discovered this problem years ago and gave a paper at some medical convention.
Both of them were warned to never talk about it again or to perform the procedures as it was a medical issue and neither of them were doctors, and it was bogus. They would both lose their licenses.
Of course after a few weeks of wearing the special mouth guards my daughter’s headaches were lessened, and in several months they went away.
If he didn’t scowl so much his jaw wouldn’t hurt.
My problem was actually found to be due to a fine crack in a tooth, that went up into the root (probably from a bike accident where I smashed the side of my face, but with no symptoms until about a year later.)
Numerous x-rays never showed it; until finally one did. I had the tooth yanked out, and no more problem. I felt very lucky, because some people suffer from this all of their lives. (Later, I heard that Dr. Ben Carson had done good work with this at Hopkins.)
I’m ambivalent about chiropractics
Sometime pain is so bad there ain’t enough Percocet in the world
You’ll try anything
I’ve even pondered buying street fentanyl
Then I think it’s just my luck.....I’ll get the drunk Beaner chemist for sure who overpacked it since that Chinese crap is dirt dirt cheap
Doctors simply can’t deal with serious pain anymore due to meddling legislators and admin state
Unless you’re in Hospice then hell it’s ok now you’re dying anyhow...let’s see ....oxycodone syrup at your leisure....morphine pump...Xanax for pending mortality anxiety....a wee fioricet to smooth out the bumps.....and of course dilaudid for advanced William S Burroughs rangers
I saw a vid on Golden Gate Bridge jumpers a few years ago
One splatter case had a note sealed in a baggie in his pocket
Toothache pain...
Tooth aches are monsters especially incisor on top ...whew
((((Experts say only about one-third of suicide victims leave notes. Perhaps the most puzzling, however, was the one left by 49-year-old John Thomas Doyle in November, 1954: “Absolutely no reason except I have a toothache.”))))
Some claim they can help almost anything
