0:00
all right guys we’re at my local walmart and today we’re going to
0:24
all right guys now there’s no doubt that our first stop on our walmart trip
0:27
is going to be the outdoor section we’re going to be able to pick up 90
0:31
of the items we need for our survival kit in the camping section
0:50
so since we are on a budget we’re going to be thinking about what our highest priorities are
0:54
and make sure we get items that cover those in our kit so i’m talking about things like food water
1:00
fire first aid shelter things like that that are going to be essential to our survival we’re going
1:07
to make sure we get those things in our kit first and then depending on how much we have left in our
1:12
budget we’ll move on to some more comfort items and sanitation and light and things like that
1:32
now what’s great about walmart is they have such a big variety of
1:36
products that you can really spend as little or as much as you want and you’ll notice that
1:41
in a lot of things that we’re looking at on these aisles that there are several different
1:45
products that can accomplish the same thing at different price points so to stay in our 100
1:52
budget we’re going to be getting the best products we can while still staying inside of our budget
2:12
all right guys this is everything we picked up on our walmart trip we spent right at 99 and
2:18
80 something cent we wanted to get as much gear as we could in here without going over
2:23
that hundred dollars now we’re going to get in here and show you everything that we got
2:27
but one great thing about walmart is that they have so much variety that you could really swap
2:32
some of these out for other items and add or take away or even upgrade some of these things
2:38
now as we’re going along through these i will be giving you guys some alternatives to some of these
2:42
items that you could swap out and still stay under that 100 price point i will also link to all these
2:48
things in the description below if you want to get them for yourself now let’s dive right in all
2:53
right the first thing we’re going to talk about here guys is the bag itself this is the day pack
2:58
from outdoor products it’s actually a pretty good quality backpack and it only ran us around 9.95
3:05
it does have one large compartment in the back with some extra storage in there
3:11
and then another compartment in the front you see it does have some organizational pockets down in
3:16
there as well and then another zipper pouch on the front for some quick access items as well as a
3:22
spot for a water bottle on both sides i think this is going to make a great base for our survival kit
3:29
and at just under 10 bucks you can’t beat it now moving right along going by what i think
3:35
is some of the highest priority items on our list there’s no doubt that when you’re talking about
3:40
survival water is going to be one of your biggest priorities so we have the sawyer mini water
3:45
filtration system this is one of the best water filter systems you can get on the market right now
3:50
it’s going to filter out a hundred thousand gallons so no matter what type of water source
3:54
you come across this thing is going to filter it for you now this is going to be the most expensive
3:59
thing on our list at 19.97 but it’s also going to be one of the most important items on the list
4:06
now if you wanted to go with something cheaper you could go with something like these potable aqua
4:10
tablets but it’s going to take longer to treat the water with this and it’s only going to treat
4:15
up to 25 quarts so it’s not going to treat as much water but this is one place where you could save
4:20
a little money if you wanted to add more items or upgrade something else in the kit next thing
4:25
we’re going to talk about is food what we went with is these mountain house adventure meals
4:30
these are freeze-dried meals they’re going to be good up to 30 years i really like going with this
4:35
type of food item for a survival bag or a bug out bag because you don’t really have to worry
4:41
about this going bad so these mountain house meals are perfect for a kit like this they are a little
4:45
expensive at 8.95 per pack but there are two servings in each pack and if you’re rationing in
4:52
an emergency situation this could easily last you a few days along those same lines you’re going to
4:58
need something to boil water and cook food in and this mess kit from ozark trail was too cheap to
5:03
pass up i have used this kit in the past it comes with a hanging pot and lid a frying pan a metal
5:10
plate and a plastic cup and at just over five dollars you cannot beat this kit right here to go
5:16
along with our food and cooking kit we have just this flatware set it comes with a plastic spoon
5:20
fork and knife and that’s going to run you just 88 so you definitely should throw that in your kit
5:26
one of our next biggest priorities is fire and these items are usually pretty affordable
5:31
so we have a few different options here we have some waterproof and storm proof matches those
5:36
are going to run you about 2.97 and then just a regular old bic lighter there’s no easier way
5:42
to start a fire than just with a big lighter now you also need some way to process wood
5:47
so we decided to go with this sawtooth machete from ozark trail i like this because it has a
5:51
nice big blade for chopping down limbs and things like that it also has a sawtooth edge for sawing
5:56
down a larger wood material and it’s got a pretty decent weight to it and a nice handle
6:02
so it should work out just fine but for 12.95 you really can’t beat this especially since it also
6:08
comes with a phariseem rod for starting fires and a nylon sheath to put it in it’s hard to go wrong
6:14
with that next things we want to think about is cordage and shelter so we went with a 50-foot hank
6:20
of 550 paracord no survival kit would be complete without some paracord the next shelter item we
6:26
put in our kit is this camping tarp from outdoor products it’s going to run just over nine dollars
6:32
but it’s going to give us an easy way to make a shelter and stay out of the elements you could of
6:36
course make your own shelter from limbs and things like that but this fit in our budget so why not go
6:42
ahead and put it in the kit along those same lines we added an emergency poncho from ust an emergency
6:48
space blanket from ozark trail the pancho is going to run you just a dollar and the space
6:53
blanket just over two dollars so it’s really a no-brainer to add something like this into the kit
6:58
again just to protect you from the elements keep you warm and dry that space blanket could also be
7:03
used along with your shelter so those two items are nice to have next thing that’s going to be
7:08
very important is some type of first aid kit now with a 100 budget we couldn’t go too crazy with
7:13
a very extensive first aid kit but at just under five dollars this kit right here is nice it has
7:18
85 items in it it’s gonna come with your bandages band-aids antiseptic a few different medicines and
7:24
things like that you never know when you could injure yourself so having a good first aid kit
7:29
is a must in a survival kit now depending on your location this may or may not be important to you
7:34
but i decided to put in the small bug repellent i am in the southern part of united states so in
7:39
the summer the bugs can get really bad out there having something like that is going to be really
7:43
important to keep those bugs off of you keep you healthy and as comfortable as possible now
7:48
of course in a survival kit you’re going to need some kind of light with a 100 budget you’re kind
7:52
of limited on the quality of gear you can get and since light is a little bit lower on the priority
7:57
list i decided to go with these budget options this is the one dollar ozark trail flashlight
8:03
it is 50 lumens so it’s not too bad as well as the one dollar headlamp so you can have a hands-free
8:09
light if you need that something else you might consider that is really cheap is just a pack of
8:14
glow sticks you can get these for under a dollar and this will provide you with eight hours of
8:18
ambient light in a survival situation the next few items we have here are not essential but they are
8:24
nice to have and they’re low cost enough that they did fit into our budget nicely so i decided to put
8:30
in a pack of all-purpose fishing hooks you could use this in conjunction with some of the inner
8:34
strands on your paracord to fish and get yourself some extra food so that’s nice to have especially
8:40
if it turns into a long-term situation next is a bandana that’s also going to run you under a
8:46
dollar so why not throw it in there there are so many uses for a bandana everything from protecting
8:51
you from the sun or filtering water or making a tourniquet and at under a dollar it’s a no-brainer
8:57
to throw a bandana in your kit next is duct tape there are a million different uses for duct tape
9:04
it’s actually a pretty decent fire starter you can also repair things with it you can make cordage
9:09
out of it and at just two dollars this gorilla brand tape is really high quality and it fit into
9:14
our budget nicely and last but not least we put in some antibacterial wipes to help keep you clean
9:20
and no matter what the situation you are still gonna have to take care of number two so having
9:24
something like this is gonna be really nice to have so you don’t end up wiping with leaves
9:29
all right guys now that’s everything we got at walmart for our 100 survival kit but we’re
9:33
still not quite done yet because there are some bonus items that you can add into a kit like this
9:38
that will probably cost you nothing because you already have them around your house first thing
9:42
on that list is a couple extra pairs of socks in a survival situation your feet get wet it can be
9:48
very important to be able to change out your socks keep your feet healthy especially if you’re on the
9:54
move next thing that’s going to go along with your fire kit is just some vaseline soaked cotton balls
9:59
these things are amazing fire starters so if you find yourself in wet conditions you’re having a
10:04
hard time starting a fire having something like these vaseline soap cotton balls is going to be
10:08
really nice to have the next bonus item you can add to your kit for almost no money is some trash
10:14
bag these are 42 gallon contractor trash bags i’ve got three of them in here these can be used for
10:20
shelter or ground cover or water catchment system and you probably already have them laying around
10:25
your house so why not throw a few in your kit and last but not least a couple bottles of water you
10:30
probably already have a case of water sitting around in your house or in your refrigerator
10:34
grab a couple bottles to throw in your kit that’ll give you a good amount of initial clean drinking
10:39
water and then when you’re done you can use these bottles along with your water filter
10:44
to collect more water all right guys now that’s it for our 100 walmart survival kit are these the
10:49
best survival items out there no is this going to sustain you for a very long period of time
10:56
maybe not but this is a great starting point this is a great way to get into your first survival kit
11:01
or bug out bag at an affordable price and then you can always go back and upgrade later so i
11:07

Not bad for an under $100.00 introductory "bug out bag" !
But it forgot about underwear, spare shoes, and soap,.. but remembered fresh socks.
Good cheap starting travel bag for "bug out".
I would also include some cash, and credit cards, assuming electricity is still available,
along with photocopies of identity documents.
Good starter !

tik :" with photocopies of identity documents."

Documents kept in sealed baggies ( in case of rain).

Gotta love people with Bug Out Bags. Where are they going to bug out to? Tell them to include a body bag. How many out of a thousand have any idea how to live in the woods? Or do they plan on camping at the local Starbucks?

When I was a lad we were required to keep a bug-out bag ready at all times. We used them one time: when Khrushchev and Kennedy got in their little spat, and we were evacuated off the base at Gitmo with must a few minutes notice.

There is no Wal-Mart kit. The guy went to Wal-Mart, bought a bunch of different things, and then assembled his own kit. “DIY” = “Do It Yourself.”

oldasrocks :" Gotta love people with Bug Out Bags. Where are they going to bug out to? .."

Exactly true ! If you're going to bug out, you have to have a place to go to (location, and purpose).
And if the location is distant, you better have cache deposits along the way to support your travel (food, water, maps, shoes/fuel, compass, etc.).
That requires some level of logical preparation and anticipation BEFORE you start out !

Revel :" Video is 10 months old.

True that it is slightly outdated, but the essential survival information is there
- and it ain't going to get any cheaper with time
But just realize that it is just a "starter DIY" kit
The KIT can get more elaborate as you practice and know of what you may experience, and what short comings you might have happen to you
When you practice, you fully realize what short comings you have overlooked or forgotten
since you learn better through trial and error, especially through error !.
That is why preppers suggest that you practice now logically, rather than 'knee-jerk' emotional reaction during a crisis.
An olde refrain :"Practice makes perfect"

Quite true !
Water is quite heavy at #8 pounds per gallon,
but a water filter allows you to lighten your kit,
and refill necessary fluids along the way.

When you bug out, don’t forget your Dan’l Boone coonskin cap, because the whole exercise is just a boyhood fantasy.

Bugging out will never be a good idea unless [1] you know to a certainty where you can go to that’s safer than your home, [2] either the gas stations remain open or you’ve got fuel enough in your bug-out your vehicle to get to your destination without refueling, and [3] the roads to wherever you’re intending to go will be passable.

If there’s an disaster in progress so pressing that you feel compelled to flee your home, you’re not going to be able to communicate with that specificity. There might still be civil defense-type broadcasts but without a doubt whatever remains of a government will be commandeering all communications services for its use. Zero chance you going to be able to telephone Aunt Mildred in Sheboygan to see if the riot/fire/flood/fallout/locusts has got to her house yet.

TV and radio might still be broadcasting but they’re not going to tell you whether Sheboygan is still there (much less Aunt Mildred’s house). Short wave radio or similar might do the trick, presuming you’ve got power.

Except there probably isn’t going to be any electric power, so even if you have a home generator, the Internet, cell phone towers and land line phones will be inop.

And if you remember the Great Toilet Paper Famine at the beginning of the Plandemic, you know that your fellow citizens will not be behaving in a neighborly fashion. There will be people at the gas stations filling every receptacle they have, to include ziplock bags. All the gas stations will be drained within hours.

And the roads to Aunt Mildreds will be clogged because of all the knuckleheads fleeing in all 12 points of the compass because none of them knows where they’re going either. Or what’s waiting for them when they get there.

You’ll get there sooner if you just saddle your unicorn and hit the trail.

If you live in a known flood plane, a coastal area that’s hurricane-prone, or where massive wildfires are possible, then it makes a degree of sense. Otherwise, there’s far more potential for payback in prepping your home for sheltering in place.
