(CNN)Ashley Judd and her family wanted the world to hear from them how Naomi Judd died. The younger Judd appeared in an interview with Diane Sawyer, which aired on Thursday on "Good Morning America." She said her family had agreed that she share the cause of death of her mother. "She used a weapon," Ashley Judd said. "A firearm. So that's the piece of information we are very uncomfortable sharing."
She and her sister Wynonna Judd announced on April 30 that they had lost their mother "to the disease of mental illness." She was 76.
Ashley Judd said she and her family wanted to shed light on mental illness, explaining that it is "important to make the distinction between the loved one and the disease."
Judd said the family reluctantly shared the cause of death before it became public in some other way. She also revealed that she was the one who discovered her mother, who had been outspoken about her battle with depression, after it happened.

RIP
What did she know about Hillary Clinton?
The last thing I would want the world to know is if my loved one committed suicide. It’s not as though mental illness is something we haven’t heard of before.
76 years of fighting depression and depression won. Does this make her a coward? She at least gave herself a chance for the longest time.
Money doesn’t buy happiness.
I read its uncommon for women to shoot themselves when committing suicide. It’s more a guy thing. Women tend toward pills more often.
My Stepson had two family members that committed suicide. A brother and an aunt. The family is still trying to cope, it was devastating.
As Bill Gates might tell Jeffrey Epstein, money can’t even get you a real girlfriend.
I’m so sorry. Just horrific for her family. She must have been in a dire distress to leave this for her family.
Especially the day before she was inducted into the Hall of Fame. I can’t imagine how bad it must of been for her not to be able to face what should have been a crowning achievement.

Curious, to think a 76 year old shot herself after such a public life.
RIP…mental illness is rampant in this country…especially among the young which is highly alarming…
The ultimate form of narcissism. Selfishness too. One day before the Hall of Fame induction.
I remember Rick Jason, Lt. Hanley of Combat! offed himself one week after their TV reunion. Laurels-nothing more to live for.
Should we make suicide legal? Pills? No one would have to clean up the mess.
Yeah, I saw the flood of posts on this topic after I pushed ‘post.’ Thanks...
Considering what an uber-lib Ashley is, it seems kinda ghoulish to share something like that.
Not funny at all in this situation.
Society has taken a turn for the worse. Rampant Wokeness and PC in schools and corporations and in social media is at the core of this. Not to mention society has moved away from religion also due to PC.
Yes. I was too much. She was a beautiful woman. My heart is breaking and I hope she is in peace but sadly her family will have to bare that burden.
That is true: Men are more likely to shoot and hang themselves and women to take pills. We had that drummed into us when taking Psych Tech courses in college...
