RV Shipments Soar To Record For This Time Of Year
Zubu Brothers ^ | 3-27-2022

New RV shipment data from the RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) February 2022 survey of manufacturers revealed demand for this time of year is at some of the highest levels ever.

RVIA said total RV shipments last month topped 53,722 units, an increase of 11.3% compared to the 48,286 units shipped during the same month last year. RV shipments jumped 13.6% through February versus the same point last year with 107,012 wholesale shipments.

Red hot demand for RVs continues through 1Q22, well above a ten-year average.

“Our latest shipment report shows the RV industry is continuing its strong start to 2022,” said RVIA President & CEO Craig Kirby.

“While the pandemic has had an impact on people’s desire to purchase an RV, our data shows the increased interest in RVing is being driven by changing attitudes around the increased importance consumers are placing on the health benefits of getting outdoors. We expect this trend towards an active outdoor lifestyle to continue into the foreseeable future, which bodes well for the RV industry,” Kirby continued.

We correctly pointed out last July, “Strong Demand For RVs Expected To Roll Into 2022”, and that’s precisely what’s happening as the virus pandemic has redefined how people travel. Forget dangerous cities where violent crime is soaring, Americans want to travel the great outdoors, and by doing so, they need an RV.

You’ll have to sell your firstborn to fill it up.

You get what you pay for with RVs. They arent built to be lived in for more than a few days.

A son has nice 32’ Class A & loves it. His IT firm (he is top R&D guy) now has all employees working from “home” and he is taking his young kids across the USA.

RV people say most RV’ers aren’t worried about gas prices, their income can handle it.

Son is looking for 38 footer next.....they love it.

Of course, if gas goes to $10/gal that all may change.

Good luck finding a spot to rent. Around here they are booked more than a year in advance.

People are buying RVs to live in because they can no longer afford houses.

I wonder how many are going to used as a residence in some manner or another? Bet that’s a part of this.

I know. Hard to believe there is such a demand for them at this time. My friend has a good used one for sale but so far no takers.

Its funny

Everytime I hear people who actually candidly talk to RV sellers, the RV sellers say they would never buy an RV.

People would be smart to avoid buying a home in the next few years. Going mobile might be a great way to reconnoiter around the country to see where to settle.

There could also be opportunities in "lease-back" operations like airplanes; buy it and lease it back to a rental company.

"Goin' Mobile"
by The Who

I'm goin' home
And when I wanna go home
I'm goin' mobile
Well, I'm gonna find a home
And we'll see how it feels
Goin' mobile
Keep me movin'

I can pull up by the curb
I can make it on the road
Goin' mobile
I can stop in any street
And talk with people that we meet
Goin' mobile
Keep me movin'

Out in the woods
Or in the city
It's all the same to me
When I'm drivin' free, the world's my home
When I'm mobile

Hee, hoo!
beep beep!

Play the tape machine
Make the toast and tea
When I'm mobile
Well I can lay in bed
With only highway ahead
When I'm mobile
Keep me movin'

Keep me movin'
Over 50
Keep me groovin'
Just a hippie gypsy

Come on move now
Movin'
Keep me movin', yeah

Keep me movin', groovin', groovin', yeah
Movin', Yeah
Mobile, mobile, mobile, mobile, ...

I don't care about pollution
I'm an air-conditioned gypsy
That's my solution
Watch the police and the tax man miss me
I'm mobile
Oooooh, yeah, hee!

Mobile, mobile, mobile yeah

It’s definitely like maintaining a 2nd house.
Except that because of vibration and flex, stuff breaks even more often.

We were all set on getting an RV, when the kids were still home, to hit the road.

Then, a friend of mine said....don’t....we rented one, for a week, to take to the Grand Canyon....she said....I’ve never done so much sweeping (3 x day) and cooking...and, dishes, on a ‘vacation’.

I didn’t like the sound of the sweeping 3 x day part....so, we didn’t ever go the RV route.

What a great experience for your son and grandkids, though. Treasured memories.

They aren't built to be lived in for more than a few days.

Well, that is certainly good information to have. I will have to inform the entire snowbird community of your incredible wisdom and insight, since so many of these evidently ignorant snowbirds spend the entire winter living in their RVs.

I will also visit my father's grave and tell him that he didn't spend the last years of his life travelling and living in a motorhome.
