Russia is refusing to take back its dead soldiers to "prevent mothers, wives and daughters from learning the true scale of the war waged by Vladimir Putin", Ukraine has claimed.
Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister for Reintegration of Temporary Occupied Territories, said the Russians are "refusing to negotiate" on the issue.
She said Vladimir Putin is hiding the scale of the war from Russian families, who many claim were "deceived" by authorities into sending their sons to fight.
"Obviously, believing that the bodies of servicemen of the Russian Federation are not worthy to return to their homeland and be buried humanely," Ms Vereshchuk said during an all-Ukrainian telethon.

It was the same during the last invasion. Russian families had to pay to get the bodies back.

This would be a new low in disgusting behavior, although I am highly skeptical of claims by either side in this mess.
Could somebody stuff at least two socks in Zelensky’s idiotic mouth? He thinks that because he has the backing of Biden, he can carry on his special personal war and joke about WWIII.
And the problem is not only that Biden has been bought by the Ukrainians, but that this is the most unserious administration ever and think that they can joke about WWIII because of course it’s not going to happen and even if it does, all government figures will be safe anyway.
Forget about women and children first...it’s all about party member bureaucrats first now.

Yesterday I saw it reported 28,000 dead.
Today I saw 7,000 dead.

Everything aside as to the relative ‘truth’ of the report - at the least a bit of graves registration work could be done for fallen Russian troops that Ukrainians recover and bury.
If they have id tags or similar artifacts - put those online. Sooner or later, restrictions will fall and the forgotten men can be remembered by their families and countrymen.
And those that sent them without concern might feel the wrath.
Russia’s using portable crematoriums that go with troops - others are a their base camps - photos are taken and Id prior to cremation.
Where the Russians recover their own - but man, that system seems completely built for deniability. Such a different cultural mindset that tolerates that sort of thing.
The Red Army has a long history of not burying its own dead. Plus they have plenty of logistics problems already, so bringing back the dead is probably not a priority.
