Filmmaker and director of the Marvel Universe’s 'Black Panther’ movies Ryan Coogler was falsely arrested at an Atlanta bank after the teller mistook him for a bank robber after he passed a note to her.
Depends on your bank. I’ve never had to comeback at another time for a large transaction. Either way, the teller freaked out over a legal transaction.
You are right, but that is not something to pass a note on. You lower your voice and say “Excuse me, I am worried about having a large amount of cash on me when I leave here-could you count the currency out of view please?”
Granted, that sounds kind of white, but that is how I would say it.
LOL, I can see the guy gets up to the window and slides the note towards the teller. She probably looked up at him, and without saying a word, he probably made a motion down to the, er...holdup note, and whispered hoarsely “Read it.” as his eyes darted furtively from side to side.
Heh, she probably got as far into the note as “I would like...” and hit the teller button.
I never saw the movie. :)
Hahahahahaha...I don’t know why, this just tickles my funnybone.
I can understand the guy is pissed-I am a balding old white guy, and when I go in to a bank (which I rarely do if I can avoid it) they make me take off my military hat and my sunglasses, which I am nearly blind without.
And I am white, not wearing a hoodie and passing a note! (I don’t know if he was wearing a hoodie or not, but it does sound funnier to me that way.)
I saw it decades ago, and recall I thought it was kind of funny, but...that was before I realized what a blazing douchebag Woody Allen was...pre-pedophile days, too.
Sure...she probably didn’t yell out “We have a large cash withdrawal at my window...can someone help?” the way a cashier might yell out “PRICE CHECK ON PREPARATION-H AND VAGINEX AT REGISTER 8!”
And we agree that the teller overreacted.
Says very clearly “do not write in this area”.
That should be grounds for detainment.
I saw the picture of the guy wearing a hoodie and a mask, and I thought “What could possibly go wrong there?”
Banks are stupid for the most part. I hate them. They make me take off my glasses and hat, but make me leave the mask on...the one thing I WANT to take off.
Last time I went, I could feel my wife touch me on the shoulder from behind when they made me do that...:)
She did the same thing a while back (gentle hand on the back) at an ice cream place when I ordered a banana split, and they said they couldn’t put cherries on top because they were bad for you with red dye #3 or something...I did a momentary boil like what happens when rods are pulled out of a nuclear reactor before I could recover and say “But...but...this is a banana split! It is full of cream, butter, sugar, nuts...and the cherry is bad?” But my wife’s hand made me think “Eh. She is just a high school kid. Doing what the Lefty owners probably told her to do...”
Banks make me feel the same way. And I am not even wearing hoodies in there!
hold on there pardner...it clearly says ‘do not write in this area’.../sarc
Hahahahahahaha!
LOL, I did not even notice that.
He’s lucky they didn’t beat him and perform a cavity search.
Why do the terms “Young Turks” and “Tomahawk Cruise Missile” spark such a close association in my mind?
Just think what would have happened if it had been Jessie Jackson behind the window with no other window to walk over and escape to!
I think everyone agrees the teller overreacted, but I just find this funny.
Smells of a deliberate attempt to accomplish exactly what happened.
Same situation here.
Tried to withdraw $9,000 from my account and was basically laughed at after being told that $9,000 was a lot of money and they don’t keep that much on hand.
I told her of she thinks that’s a lot, imagine the loss when I close my accounts totaling over 200,000.
I have to admit when I first heard this story, I though “The director of the Black Panthers OUGHT to be arrested, he’s a fricking terrorist.”
It was several days before it became clear to me that there was a movie of that name.
I think I know why.
