With inflation running over 10% there is really only one way out of this, repeat what Paul Voelker did, raise interest rates significantly, the downside is, it will crater the economy, this being an election year that won’t happen quickly enough.

When I look at a graph of mortgage rates covering the past 50 years, a 4.43% rate seems like it’s soaring like a penguin.

I agree. Long term rates need to be up around 20% to 25% to tamp down the inflation we’re seeing.

But that’s not going to happen so the inevitable direction we’re going is to see a drastic devaluation of the US dollar.
