Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington appeared to brush off Hollywood's obsession with diversity in a recent media interview, suggesting the buzzword "shouldn't even be mentioned" when promoting works of art.
The legendary movie star took a decidedly more color-blind approach to arts and entertainment than the one espoused by modern progressive "anti-racism" advocates while discussing his new film, “The Tragedy of Macbeth," which is a stripped-down retelling of the Shakespearean classic.
“Obviously we are diverse, so I think that’s a great thing,” Washington told NBC BLK, a news segment devoted to the African-American perspective, during a roundtable meeting with other media outlets.

His “Macbeth” is very much on my watch list. I’m very interested to see just how stripped down it is.
If you have Denzel’s talent you don’t need diversity bullying to get jobs.
Denzel Washington is a great American who happens to be black.
Definitely want to see that. He’s a superb actor.
Easy for him to say - he worked his gonads off to get to where he is. But what about those who are lazy? He doesn’t seem to want to address those people.
Denzel is great as a tough guy.
He gets better and better.
The first time i watched “Much ado about nothing”, I was thinking, “ok here it is, the next two hours will be a race lecture.” 5 or 6 minutes in, he had me. Absolutely great actor.
Just like Morgan Freeman with Mike Wallace: “Just stop talking about it!”
Favorite current actor - sort of the modern Spencer Tracy. I wish he’d get less crappy, violent material though (and, I wish he’d done Othello instead of Macbeth).
He is...as another poster said above, if you’re a great actor, you don’t need to rely on “diversity” to get you the parts.
exactly!...............
Denzel is this generation’s Sidney Poitier - an actor and gentleman who just happens to be “black”.
Denzel was excellent in “Much Ado...” .
I just watched “Unstoppable” (about a runaway train) with him and Chris Pine in it, and I thought it was a very good movie.
I like Denzel Washington a lot.
.
If you haven’t seen “Unstoppable” that sounds like it would be right up your alley. No guns or murders in it. Just a runaway train...:)
He did a post-apocalyptic movie called “The Book of Eli” (also had the great Gary Oldman) that was very good. Without giving it away, the movie ends up in different place than what you’d expect. And he is so very good in it.
I was on reserved on the 2nd unit team back then, when I first started. Those who watched that movie KNOW what the “book” really means, or is.
