Newly released body-camera footage shows the moments Houston police officer Orlando Hernandez, 25, was speeding, driving with one hand before hitting and killing 62-year-old Michael Wayne Jackson. On Dec. 4, Jackson was walking to his barber when the officer hit and killed him with his police cruiser.
The case is yet to be presented to a grand jury by prosecutors, said Dane Schiller, a spokesperson for Harris County district attorney’s office.
“People dont have to reach very far to make cops look bad these days.”
And a lot of cops are making themselves look bad. And that’s not good at all.

Police Officers learn to drive and use the radio which is
located to the right of the driver. It’s not unusual , at all.
What is odd is how you could see an approaching Police car with emergency lights on and still step out into the roadway.
Police and Fire in emergency situations must still operate their vehicles in a safe manner. Things happen that are out of their control but if this LEO was following department protocols, which are also reviewed by the City’s insurance carrier, then this will be a civil matter.
I was a City Manager at one time during my career and have seen the Police do some of the dumbest things because they believe that when they tun on their lights and sirens it gives them an automatic pass to drive like maniacs.
Bodycam shows speeding Houston cop killing pedestrian on sidewalk
It’s written into the laws of most states, that all kinds of traffic laws can be violated when responding to an emergency with lights and sirens.
And I know of no state that mandates two hands on the wheel.
In any case, sorry for the pedestrian, but if you get run over by a cop car with lights and sirens on, you bear a lot of responsibility unless the cop ran up on the sidewalk or something.
According to the article, the officer’s vehicle jumped a curb before hitting the pedestrian, so it appears that the dead guy did nothing wrong. I’d wait for more info before reaching any conclusions.
But looking at that video, on that wet street that was way too fast. Most cops also know that no matter how bad the emergency is, if you wreck on the way there, you don’t help at all, and you create a whole new problem.
Also slow down the video at the moment of impact. Play it on .25% speed. It looks like it’s been edited.
That’s a huge liability suit and he will be lucky too avid charges. No matter how many hands he had on the wheel, that was too fast for conditions.
Do you really want to know?
Because, some animals are more equal than others.🙄
See post 24.

I don’t see why this “one-hand” thing is an issue, either. Unless it’s just part of the drive to defund or diminish law enforcement.
On Nov. 23, 2007, Mitchell was responding to a traffic crash at more than 120 mph, emailing on his patrol car’s computer and talking to his girlfriend on his cellphone when his patrol car crossed the median on Interstate 64 near Illinois 158 and slammed into a car carrying Jessica and Kelli Uhl, who were 18 and 13.
Mitchell and his department first tried to blame the accident on Jessica Uhl.
I'll agree that driving one-handedly with power steering shouldn't generally be a problem in most situations. But the article states he had a partner on board, so any non-driving tasks cannot be an excuse.
😡
Do you really drive with 2 hands on the wheel?
But my point was that it wasn't necessary for the driver to drive one-handed, as he had a partner on board who could surely play with the radio etc.
