This is not a “f*** SF” post. This is a lament of what has been lost, and a wistfulness for what could have been.
A year ago I was smirking at the people moving out of the Bay Area. I thought these were fairweather citizens, silly for moving to political train-wrecks like Texas or Florida.
Twelve months on, my wife and I find ourselves packing our life into boxes. Not to run towards a place where we feel greater love, but just to leave. The pendulum has swung hard in the last twelve months. I didn’t think this change in my mindset would happen, or so quickly. I wanted to share the journey, in part because I’ve been in both camps at various points, and I hope those on most parts of the spectrum will consider this a reasonable, balanced perspective. In summary — there have been many wonderful things about the Bay Area environment and local tech ecosystem. Some of those things persist. But enough challenges in quality of life have emerged and accelerated in recent years that the benefits are very clearly far outweighed by mounting frustrations.

Unfortunately the writer does not understand that much of what he says he likes about living in the Bay Area Constitute root causes for what he goes on to enumerate not liking about it.
A brainwashed liberal populace voting in nothing but democrat wrecking balls for thirty plus years has its consequences. California is what you get when people ‘demand more government’ and get precisely that.
“Unfortunately the writer does not understand that much of what he says he likes about living in the Bay Area Constitute root causes for what he goes on to enumerate not liking about it.”
Yup.
I hope life continues to suck for this brain fart. That wherever he goes, misery and failure follows him.
“This is such a cliché, but we’re moving to Miami.”
Translation: douchebag leftists like me effed up California. Time to go eff up Florida.
Looking for new nests to foul.
“...moving to political train-wrecks like Texas or Florida.”
Well, let us all pray this one moves to someplace like Oregon or Vermont that’s already past hope.
Otherwise, it’s a case of Coming Soon To A School Board Near You!
He said they are moving to Miami. They’re planning to infect a red state.
Don’t come here.
It’s hard not to wanna punch dumb bunnies who mouth all of the liberal platitudes then bemoan everything having naturally gone to hell, and they’re moving.
It’s especially aggravating when they brag about being off to someplace where a critical mass has not yet embraced their dumbass values, the ones which ruined their former home.
“This is such a cliché, but we’re moving to Miami.
I know there’s plenty to be apprehensive about. A shitshow political environment on the other extreme… but perhaps a blue dot in a red state will be more moderate than a blue dot in a blue state.”
FU, we don’t need no “blue dots” here to show us the way. We doing just fine. Stay in SFcrapo.
The misery and failure following him are suffered by the regular people, like you and me, when he moves in next door, starts voting and raising hell at your local school board.
Don’t come to Oklahoma. Still about 30% are committed deplorables who work greasy or dusty jobs, go to church, and carry sidearms. Plus, the scenery and weather sucks and outside of the urban areas big pickup trucks are everywhere. You and your California friends will hate it.
I saw years ago that the liberals were doing to San Francisco what they did to Detroit.
And the results will be the same in that in a few years the posh mansions of Nob Hill and Pacific Heights will be abandoned and it will be fifty to a hundred years before anyone with any sense thinks to try living in that festering pustule of a city.
Poor Miami. This fool’s arrogance is staggering. His ilk ruined Frisco and, as is usual with the incompetent, can’t realize that he did it himself.
My idiot brother fled California when the city of Sacramento literally stole his front yard without permit, notice, or payment. They wanted a new stoplight and his yard was a great place to put it.
So he ran away to Oregon where he proudly keeps voting Democrat. Moron.
I have thought for a long time that Atlas Shrugged is an unrealistic straw man full of contradictions. I never thought I’d live in a society that actually approximated it.
I have no desire to live in an environment that now prizes takers over makers.

Light dawns on Marblehead.
All I got to say is this; if you move to Texas remember why you came - and the reason why you left.
God Bless Texas…
Well liberals are always right, so there is no need for self examination or introspection...
