BIG GROCERY? SERIOUSLY?
Powerline ^ | 21 Dec 2021 | John Hinderaker

I’m not saying that Elizabeth Warren is the dumbest person in public life–there is a lot of competition for that title–but let’s just say she is having the worst week. First she accused Elon Musk of being a tax freeloader, just before he disclosed that he will pay $11 billion in taxes this year, more than any American in history, to Warren’s slush fund the federal government. Next she blamed skyrocketing food prices on “Big Grocery.” Seriously:

Elizabeth Warren
@SenWarren
Giant grocery store chains force high food prices onto American families while rewarding executives & investors with lavish bonuses and stock buybacks. I'm demanding they answer for putting corporate profits over consumers and workers during the pandemic.

This is almost beyond belief. The grocery store business is notoriously competitive and relatively unprofitable. David Harsanyi writes that “average margins [come] in at a little over 2 percent,” one of the lowest margins of any industry:

[T]o put the numbers in context, health-care-products companies saw 10.91 percent net profits last year; home furnishers saw 4.63; household-product makers saw 11.71; restaurants saw 5.69; home builders saw 9.04; and online retailers saw 4.95.

The idea that there is such a thing as “Big Grocery” is so laughably stupid that only a far-gone ideologue like Elizabeth Warren could take it seriously.

Liberals, in general, have no freaking idea how business works.

They just look at big numbers and say OOOH! I WANT THAT!..................

What was the name of that book that talked about corn and petroleum being America’s biggest industries?

I think it was referred to as the Corn Highway.

Food inc... maybe.

Warren is a millionaire who does not pay taxes, who attacks other people for not paying taxes.

Jen Psaki blamed “big meat.”

Now, I don’t know everything in the world. But, I would guess Jen had never had an encounter with “Big meat.” Although if anyone seemed to need to understand that perspective, it’s her.

Elizabeth is so damned stupid.

It’s a shame people that worked in the real world aren’t running the show.

If you're going to store, get the big groceries. It's more economical.

While grocery margins are very low, typically in the single digits, turnover is very high making Kroger and Wal-Mart two of the more attractive stocks to hold.

However, one of the reasons that America is one of the best fed (and fattest) countries in the world is because our food supply chain is also one of the most efficient precisely because the industry is so competitive.

When circumstances put our household on food stamps for a few months back in the waning days of the ObaMao administration, I was frankly surprised at the generous allowance-- it was more than we were spending on food than when I was working.

The ditz Lizzie needs to understand that if Fedzilla messes with the food supply chain, it won't be only the middle class she will be hurting.

“I would guess Jen had never had an encounter with ‘Big meat.’”

Maybe she’s has. Per Peter Schweizer, Jen has “trouble with big meat”. LOL!

Government parasites NEVER use their own money.
Once in office, they suck off the backs of struggling taxpayers for every whim.

Grocery stores operate on incredibly thin margins.

While in other areas consumer goods might be marked up 100%, 200% or more, and in many areas the profit margin might be comfortably in the double-digits... In grocery business often the margins are 1% to 2%.

At least back when I worked at a store... It wasn't uncommon to have a "loss leader" advertised. As in, that $0.15 off per lb of ground chuck meant the store was losing a few pennies on each lb sold. They are counting on you doing the rest of your shopping while you're there. The sale draws you in, and they hopefully break even or go up a little on the other items.

"Big grocery" is big business, but they make their money through volume, not by gouging the customer. Anyone even remotely interested in the business learns that - even a teenage stock boy. ;-) That won't stop a leftist from portraying them as big-bad "big grocery" if it suits their purpose. As others have said, when a 'rat leftist sees someone making a lot of money, they start salivating and want to control it or at least get their cut off the top. Effin' parasites.

Every year until now, there was a period right before Christmas when grocery stores would have Christmas Prime Rib sections up for sale. They never lasted long and certainly were gone before this time now. They’re more expensive now, but the real reason they are STILL in the meat cases even now (here in WM, Kroger and Ingles) is that people just don’t have the money to buy them when there are so many other things they are hunting to find because shipping/replenishment for recurring products is diminished.

Yeah we told the family that instead of steaks this Christmas dinner they’re getting “Biden Burgers”.

I bought a Prime Rib at Costco as I always do for Christmas, OMG that Prime Rib this year was almost $300.00 talk about sticker shock!! I am used to paying about $150.00 for the same size roast each year!! I am quite sure MOST people who have Prime Rib for Christmas just won’t be able to afford it this year beef has become extremely expensive, actually EVERYTHING has become extremely expensive!! Paper goods are out of control!!!
