We have Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer, but Sweden has their Gävle goat aka Gävlebocken:
“Gävlebocken is a traditional Christmas display erected annually at Slottstorget (Castle Square) in central Gävle, Sweden. It is a giant version of a traditional Swedish Yule Goat figure made of straw. It is erected each year by local community groups at the beginning of Advent over a period of two days. It has been the subject of repeated arson attacks, and, despite security measures and the nearby presence of a fire station, the goat has been burned to the ground most years since its first appearance in 1966. As of December 2019, the goat has been damaged 37 times. Burning the goat is illegal and the Court of Appeal stated that the offence should normally carry a 3-month prison sentence as it sentenced a 27-year-old man to a suspended sentence and day fines for aggravated property damage in 2018.”
[Which is likely why it keeps getting torched year after year. Are you paying attention California? New York? Chicago?]
Sometimes when it gets too wet (it snows a lot in Sweden) to be torched the hooligans simply smash it to pieces and stomp it to death. Remember that children, the next time you wish that we were more like Sweden: we are.

Why can’t we be more like America used to be?

Lots of Swedes left Sweden to move to America for exactly that reason.
My Swedish mother immigrated to the US because she didn’t want to live under socialism.
My Econ professors wife was Swedish. He lived there for a bit. They were his example of how not to run an economy. This was 43 years ago.
You missed one key negative....your salary amount...is openly printed. So if a neighbor wanted to know how much you and the wife make....they can look it up.
I’m trying to remember the name of that film about Swedish settlers in Minnesota, circa 1850 or so. It contained a phrase something like “The New Land”. But one scene has immigrants conversing about why they left and one pipes up “Everybody in the neighborhood knows if you so much as fart!”
We will very soon be like the ‘New Sweden’ and that is NOT a good thing, and I’m only talking from a social perspective.
The Old Sweden could ONLY exist when there was one culture there, as it was very easy to mooch off their system. One a new culture arrives, what do they (always) do: Mooch off their system.
They’re DOOMED as they seemed unwilling to change that system.
Many more muslim rape gangs would help us become more like Sweden? Certainly Brandon’s importation of 10s of thousands of Afghanis will help the US become more muslim and up the chances of mass rape by muslim tribals.

Any of my friends and neighbors that knew my rate with the DoD could find out what my salary was in about 30 seconds....of course that’s the exception here.
One can’t compare Sweden - a sparsely populated country of 10 million that is in the frozen north - with the USA - a mix of spare and densely populated country of 350 million in a continent sized country.
There is no comparison.
Sweden has a few big cities and its taxes are high - but it WORKS in a small country like Sweden.
It can’t work in all of the USA.
You can compare Sweden with Michigan state - somewhat. But to compare it to all of the USA - in any way is nonsensical.
Why not compare Sweden to Fiji? the same illogic works

Same here! My paternal grandparents fled Sweden as teenagers — separately, meeting and marrying later as adults — for a better like in America. Any Swede with get-up-and-go got up and went, mostly to America, leaving behind the comfortable and cowardly. Sweden became a nation of bossy, compliant Karens before the term was even invented.

The left is enamored by the “sucess” of Sweden’s socialism, but I read an article sometime back that made the case that if Sweden was one of the United States, that it would be the poorest state in the union.
