New York CEO fires 900 employees on Zoom call (Video)

The CEO of New York-based online mortgage lender Better.com has sacked a total of 900 employees with immediate effect during a now-viral Zoom call. Better.com’s chief executive Vishal Garg has slammed the ex-workers for allegedly stealing from customers by not being productive.

During the announcement of the mass firings in a Zoom call, Vishal Garg struck an unapologetic tone to the shock of the affected workers, a recording of which was later posted on various social media platforms, including TikTok, YouTube.

Here’s a conservative idea for you — if you don’t like the service you’re receiving, find a different service provider, rather than complain on the internet about wait times. If you’re too broke to afford better service, also best to keep quiet about it.

Yes, I tend to agree. (I am a knucklehead working from home, but I actually work. I get more accomplished with the commute time cut out.)

I had to laugh because after I commented that I wasn’t seeing any negative comments, I see one popped up right below. 😄

What did these people expect working for an Indian with no respect or understanding of Americans?

Are you suggesting it is 'American' to work only two hours while putting in 8 hours on the clock? That is how most of the grifters were fired, it was based on performance (or lack thereof) in terms of client calls, etc. It was found they were putting in two hours of work each day.

Yes - it's a two way street. Employee can (and do) leave it will. Nobody talks about the hardship the company endures when that happens.

Why are Americans (FR) dumping on American workers when it is an Indian firing them. And, no, I don’t see anything about these being more than just American workers, likely already replaced by Indians.

So your assertion is that workers can slack off, working only 2 hours a day, providing poor customer service, while billing for 8 hours and the management has no right to fire them? Leave aside nationalities, why is this behavior acceptable and why can't a business owner take appropriate action?

Its just a matter of right versus wrong, slacking off and not provide an acceptable level of effort at your work is just not right.

Garg’s reputation as a not very nice person goes back to last year, when Forbes revealed the contents of an email to employees from Garg: “HELLO — WAKE UP BETTER TEAM. You are TOO DAMN SLOW. You are a bunch of DUMB DOLPHINS and…DUMB DOLPHINS get caught in nets and eaten by sharks. SO STOP IT. STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW. YOU ARE EMBARRASSING ME.”

That same Forbes article revealed that Garg was the subject of a number of lawsuits from the likes of PIMCO and Goldman Sachs for things like “improper and even fraudulent activity at two prior business ventures, and of misappropriating “tens of millions of dollars.”
