The CEO of New York-based online mortgage lender Better.com has sacked a total of 900 employees with immediate effect during a now-viral Zoom call. Better.com’s chief executive Vishal Garg has slammed the ex-workers for allegedly stealing from customers by not being productive.

During the announcement of the mass firings in a Zoom call, Vishal Garg struck an unapologetic tone to the shock of the affected workers, a recording of which was later posted on various social media platforms, including TikTok, YouTube.

I hope about eight people I dealt with at Better.com are rueing their incompetent handling of my year-apart, multiple mortgage requests.

It was so bad, we went to a different mortgage company. They actually were timely and kept their promise of the fees and interest rates.

Better.com ALWAYS screwed us.

That is going to start a large number of lawsuits over “insensitivity”, “racism”, and “mental assault”...

Yep. They probably got hired in a Zoom call. Now they got fired in a Zoom call.

Welcome to 2021.

Don't know what the big deal is. A company down-sized. The company doesn't need their employment any more.

So what.

If they got too comfortable with their job and didn't position themselves for the possibility then bad on them...

More than 900 employees of better.com got the shock of their lives when they were laid off. The incident happened last Wednesday when the company’s CEO Vishal Garg informed the employees that they have decided to lay off nine percent of the workforce.

I will bet most of the fired employees shouldn’t have been hired in the first place. Not to imply they were poor performers but a lot of start up founders who get easy access to venture money spend like drunken sailors. They burn through money and in the end have nothing to show for it.

A lot of them were in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Department, so no big loss.

The criticism this guy is receiving from our fellow FReepers is absolutely ridiculous and asinine.

We conservatives constantly, and righteously so, complain about government employees being a bunch of untouchable, lazy, incompetent, insensitive, worthless and overpaid grifters lacking morals an ethics, (military excluded), yet the COVID scam allowed untold amounts of people to not only obtain employment despite their lack of qualifications, but also maintain employment.

To wit, think about everytime you called customer service (credit cards, bank account, insurance claims, medical assitance, etc.) for anything over the past 2 years. Were you put on hold for an unusually longer period of time with some faceless knucklehead voice telling you:

“Due to COVID, wait times to speak to a customer service representative have increased. We will answer your call in the order it has been received. Please stay on the line and a customer service representative will be able with you shortly. Thank you for your patience.”

Well, those knuckleheads were all working from home. Their companies paid millions, if not billions, of dollars to set them up at home so they could sit in their living rooms, in their underwear, PJs or buck-ass naked, drinking coffee, tea or alcohol, playing video games or watching porn without any supervision while you sat there losing your mind for hours on end while being forced tolistening to the same tape of mindless and brain numbing elevator music interspersed with stupid updates on non-existent services.

These “CSRs” are no different than government employees (DMV, Teachers, social service workers, among many others) that sat at home on their backsides drinking lattes and eating Doritos, doing the minimal amount necessary and still collecting a paycheck. But NOW they have to go back to work and actually earn their paycheck again. Why else do you think the teachers’ unios refused to go back to work?

This guy is a businessman. Who among us cares where his funding came from? He is in business to serve his customers and make a profit. The gubmint tied his hands behind his back and allowed his employees to rape him financially and screw his customers.

I say kudos for him and God bless him.

I don’t see a lot of FReepers criticizing him. Most seem to be supportive of his decision.

At least on this particular thread.

What did these people expect working for an Indian with no respect or understanding of Americans?

Yeah, you are correct. My apologies.

Full disclosure, I was suspended from posting for a few days because I tend to be just a bit too aggressive in my comments, and I read a couple of comments that were critical of the CEO. So, true to my nature, I went the whole hog. Suffice to say, in a literary sense, that was premature ejaculation on my part. (But I promise that was the first time and never happened before. I promise. Seriously.🤪)

Mea culpa.

I got a bit too excited. I’ll work on that, but my comment is still valid and well founded, no?
