The New York Times had an unusual red pill moment and actually threw cold water on the hype behind President Joe Biden’s huge $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill signed into law earlier this month.
Independent journalist Ralph Vartabedian wrote an eye-opening analysis for The Times critiquing the bill as extremely risky. He cited the major cost escalation problems that plagued one of Honolulu, Hawaii’s infrastructure projects as a case study for how the dilemma with “big infrastructure” is exacerbated when applied nationally. Vartabedian said the “national spending spree fueled” by Biden’s $1.2 trillion bill “carries enormous risks that the projects will face the same kind of cost, schedule and technical problems that have hobbled ambitious efforts from New York to Seattle, delaying benefits to the public and driving up the price tag that taxpayers ultimately will bear.” Talk about a buzzkill for media liberals like Joy Behar and New York Times economist Paul Krugman who’ve been whipping out the pompoms for Biden’s infrastructure efforts in past months. I don’t think Krugman should show his shortcomings by whipping anything out.
Kill it now.
The Big Dig in Boston was approved in the 1980’s for $2.5 Billion. Reagan vetoed it. Tip Oneil(the Speaker at the time)had the votes to override Reagan’s veto. Final price was around 13-14 billion.
He cited the major cost escalation problems that plagued one of Honolulu, Hawaii’s infrastructure projects.....
When he cited the problems did he write about all the graft, corruption, bribes, kickbacks and payoffs? No. Well then he didn’t do his job.
Cold water? It needs a silver stake driven through its heart by a priest trained in exorcism while wearing Holy water soaked vestments laden with garlic cloves......did I miss anything?
Trump could get it done on time and under budget.
The democrats denied Trump an infrastructure bill. And now take credit because a handful of RINO’s gave Democrats what Democrats wouldn’t give Trump.
Lets just say, for arguments sake, that with legitimate delays and increases in labor and material, that the actual cost should have been around $9-10 billion.
Anywhere between $4-5 billion in the pockets and bank accounts of so many.
The MAGA hat, you missed the hat
👍
That's why his wife writes his columns - she's seen it.
At least the Big Dig was finally built—and did help traffic patterns in Boston.
The California “High Speed Rail”, on the other hand has done nothing but flush dollars down the toilet:

The new “infrastructure” bill will flush more cash down the same toilet.
The whole article is worth reading—this is a multi decade debacle that appears to have more decades of failure ahead of it.
Doesn’t the Senate still need to approve of this BBB bill,
or did I miss that announcement?
If Senate approval is needed, when might this happen?
I’m thinking the sooner the better.
The mayors are already acting as though it was a done deal.
The point of all this is - the country is falling apart. We NEED trillions in (actual) infrastructure spending.
But NO ONE trusts the government to raise money honestly or to spend it wisely.
It is not that we don’t need infrastructure. It’s that we need a new government.
Cost overruns are universal in any large construction project. Even residents who want to upgrade their homes face the same situation. The costs always grow as the work is proceeding.
The California Bullet Train started as a $30 billion bond measure and ballooned to some $80-90 billion before Jerry Brown killed most of it.
When the New York Slimes can’t say anything nice about something leftist that says a lot. In addition to their normal gaslighting of us, Democrats and their MSM sycophants are doing everything they can to divide us by race. I saw a video about the ridiculous level of their fake ‘white supremacy’ charges, and you can check it out at Whatfinger News in crawler link top of page. The actual thing to worry about is leftist supremacy. And 95% of the stuff in that Bill has nothing to do with infrastructure, which is a real thing with a clear definition.
Pretty sure there are a lot of Democrat’s praying this massive bill dies a quick death. They know it’s poisonous with Midterms coming up and vast swaths of the population are ready to votes any democrat out of office as punishment.
The kicker is Boston traffic is just as congested now as it was then.
The ‘Supernatural’ boys aren’t busy now. Too bad they (both actors) are communists.
Yes, which would have been a REAL infrastructure Bill too, not this communism called infrastructure.
