Many people are choosing to make the switch to plant-based diets for many reasons – including as a way of cutting their climate footprint or to be healthier.
Yet there’s long been the notion that plant-based diets are inherently more expensive than following a more traditional omnivore diet – which is why some people may be hesitant to make the switch. But it turns out that this isn’t entirely accurate. In fact, the recent research my colleagues and I published in Lancet Planetary Health found that eating a healthier and more sustainable diet (such as vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or flexitarian) could actually slash up to a third off your food bill if you live in a high income country – like the UK, the US or Europe.
To conduct our study, we used data from the World Bank, which regularly collects information on the prices of many different items to estimate the purchasing power of different countries as a way of calculating their gross domestic product (GDP).

Vegan is not better for the planet, takes more land to grow proteins like soy than for raising beef.
Plus you cannot get your essential amino acids from plants alone.
Beef. It’s what’s for dinner.
Let me guess — by not buying expensive meat.
Grass-Fed Beef, that is.
I’m too depressed with Brandon’s economy, etc to eat just vegetables.
since Brandon got into office my ice cream bill alone has skyrocketed.
Is a flexitarian diet...eating from garbage cans?
Vegan .... old injun word means “lousy hunter”
Meat diets good
vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or flexitarian or what ever diet it’s called now blah
If we aren’t supposed to eat meat, why do we have canine teeth?
Well, if my wife weren’t around, I would consider the broke college student diet: chicken franks and day old rolls. Spaghetti and sauce. Grilled pasteurized processed cheese food. Encor “Gravy and Salisbury Steak”. eggs. Canned tuna with Miracle Whip and day old bread, etc. Frozen vegetables to round things out.
Plus, you can raise cattle on range land unsuitable for agriculture, without having to use fertilizer or pesticides.
Don’t forget the ramen noodles or cup-a-soups.
Forcibly reminded me of this book, which in today's "WOKE" academia, is probably on the banned list!
As for this author and advocacy, I'm waiting with bated breath (not baited!) for a Euell Gibbons type to host a, probably PBS, show about mowing your lawn for lunch [push mower only]. Wonder what dressing goes best with Fescue?
More Great Reset propaganda.
These vegetarians always look emaciated.
Beans, beans are good for your heart…
I’ll stick with eating only meat and drinking only water, thanks!
Today is my 1217th consecutive day I’ve only eating meat & drinking water & every aspect of my life continues to be better than the day before. I feel better at age 60 than I did at age 25.
The vegans are welcome to my share of their fruits and veggies.
They leave out the fact that vegetarians die younger.
