The Psychic Dangers of Infected Minds (With a Lie this Large)

In an early essay “Symbols of Transformation”, archetypal ‘poster-boy’ of the collective unconscious Carl Jung noted:

'There’s no adequate protection against psychic epidemics, which are infinitely more devastating than the worst of natural catastrophes. The supreme danger which threatens individuals [and] whole nations is a psychic danger.’

Though history is littered with the mortal remains of the countless victims of such dangers, it’s hard to recall a period in recent times where Jung’s insight into the ‘human condition’ has carried such portent.

The much-touted microbial perils aside for now, arguably not since September 11, 2001 have we experienced such a sweeping psychic contamination of the global body politic implicit in Jung’s maxim as with the emergence of the Coronavirus. Both events were game changers: disparate to be sure, yet ‘transformative’, both have underscored the man’s insight in spades and shovels. It informs much of what follows.

With uncertainty, fear, anxiety, suspicion, hysteria, intolerance, paranoia, and incipient panic in the ascendancy, infecting ever more deeply our already ‘overloaded’, much put upon psyches, and some of our most basic, hitherto presumed freedoms and liberties abruptly curtailed or suspended ostensibly for the greater good (by some earnest accounts, temporarily), all of us have been affected in some way.... The true calculus of the effects will be some time in coming, if in fact we can expect such....

b) [as] real an existential threat to humanity as our established and establishment sources of news and information would have it; or

…it is the all too human propensity for irrational thought and illogical action that gives rise to the psychopathology implicit in Jung’s assessment....

To me, humans are a seven-level hierarchy created as it says in Genesis “in Our Image”, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Of the seven, the lowest three levels of our hierarchy are of the body and correspond to Jesus in body, and through the body we are connected to the Earth and the world as He was.

The highest three levels of the human hierarchy are levels of love and correspond to God, the Father, who is Love, as in “God is Love.”

It is through our love that we have the highest connections with ourselves, each other and to Heaven and to God, with the highest level of love being our love for God, which is different than the love we feel for ourselves, or for family or friends or for community.

In between the lowest three and highest three levels is our intuition, which corresponds to the Holy Spirit.

Our intuition allows connection between our lower self of the physical world, which we experience and rationally know and understand, with the spiritual world beyond, which we cannot sense nor understand unless He, the Holy Spirit, ‘splains it to us.

The lowest three levels of the human hierarchy begin with the actual physical body, itself, being the lowest level.

It is through the body and its physical senses that we connect to and experience the physical world around us, giving us barely a thin sliver of awareness of and into the vast electro magnetic spectrum we inhabit.

Above the physical body is the emotional ‘body’ and above the emotional ‘body’ is the mental ‘body’.

Each of these are separate from the others, yet all integrated in the whole, with each occupying its own place and reality within the hierarchy.

For example, we use expressions that speak to each as being separate with some other part claiming ownership: “this is my body” “I feel great” “I think, therefore I am” and on and on.

We also can see this truth when we become injured or ill on one level and reach higher to over rule that level’s complaints, such as when the physical body gets sick or hurt, and we reach higher to emotionally push or mentally will ourselves past the pain and do it anyway.

And we use the tools of our mental level and emotional level to fix the damage, using information and learned skills to repair the damage of the body, while calming our emotions to further our healing.

Similarly, when our emotions become sick or depressed for whatever reason(s) and even though our physical body is fine, we feel like we are unable to do much of anything … just no energy.

But from a higher level within our inner hierarchy, we can mentally will ourselves to do what we need to do, overcoming and repairing our emotions with reason and good sense, mindful that ‘this too shall pass’ … and thus we raise ourselves above the emotional pain and do it anyway, even if we don’t feel like it.

However, if our mental ‘body’ becomes sick or damaged, our physical body and our emotions can be perfectly fine and functioning normally, but what we do or say can and will be anything but fine or normal.

In fact, we can even will our self sick or well, too. Our mental level has that power over the lower levels, as any hypnotist can/will demonstrate.

The rules of the hierarchy are in charge and, to repair our inner self, we use the tools of a higher level to fix the damage of the lower level or levels, but not the other way around.

Thus, it’s very difficult to repair damage at the mental level, because the only tools the rational mind has to fix the mind are also of the mind and eventually you’ll need a smarter mind to fix the mind.

Because of this, therapy often becomes a long dive into the rabbit hole chasing this and that or some other thing, but never finding the way out.

To repair the mental body, we need to go to the higher levels to find the tools to reset our mental ‘body’ back to God’s OEM programming that we all started with.

If modern psychology/psychiatry doesn’t do this, it’s going to be a crap shoot finding what we need by going down that road unless you take Him with you.

Think of the mental level or mental ‘body’ as being like a computer and being in the world like the computer connected to the internet.

Connected to the internet without some kind of anti-malware installed and also being updated constantly, sooner or later the computer will become infected with some kind of virus or worse and no longer function as intended.

Its inner definitions, standards and references required to functional ‘normally’ will have been corrupted, purposely altered to make it be or do something new or break it altogether.

To repair our mental ‘body’, we need to reset and recalibrate back to the original Source code, so to speak, and this requires the tools of the higher levels.

Without the Holy Spirit to teach us and help us to discern what is real from what is not, we’re in a state of confusion, frequently damaged in ways that are not often realized by us and generally are not functioning ‘at our best’ as intended.

Without receiving His Daily Bread downloads and the constantly updated anti-virus definitions, it’s extremely difficult to avoid or repair the daily damage to our mental and emotional levels from living in and being connected to the world.

We don’t ‘self-repair’ and the world’s mental malware cuts us off from finding our way back to the Source, so it’s no wonder so many are sick and the world is so messed up nowadays.

Without God, the Source, giving us what we need, we’re dead. It’s just a matter of time, so number the days.
