What this study finds is exactly what vaccine developer Geert Vanden Bossche (Belgium) has been predicting. The predominance of antibody-resistant SARS-CoV-2 variants in vaccine breakthrough cases from the San Francisco Bay Area, California. [DATA LINK HERE]
The California study finds that vaccinated individuals are more susceptible to COVID variant infections than unvaccinated. Geer Vanden Bossche has been warning that vaccine antibodies would suppress natural antibody responses. The vaccine antibodies take control of the immune system and defend only against a targeted virus.
Among vaccinated individuals, a COVID variant virus is not recognized by the specialized antibodies provided by the vaccine, and the natural antibodies have been programmed to stand down.
(MedRxiv) Associations between vaccine breakthrough cases and infection by SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants have remained largely unexplored. Here we analyzed SARS-CoV-2 whole-genome sequences and viral loads from 1,373 persons with COVID-19 from the San Francisco Bay Area from February 1 to June 30, 2021, of which 125 (9.1%) were vaccine breakthrough infections. Fully vaccinated were more likely than unvaccinated persons to be infected by variants carrying mutations associated with decreased antibody neutralization.
[…] These findings suggest that vaccine breakthrough cases are preferentially caused by circulating antibody-resistant SARS-CoV-2 variants, and that symptomatic breakthrough infections may potentially transmit COVID-19 as efficiently as unvaccinated infections. (read more)
Be careful around vaccinated people, because they can carry a more resistant form of COVID-19. Additionally, the highly specialized antibodies in the vaccine create a need for a booster for each antibody resistant variant. Israel is already on booster #2.
Dr. Vanden Bossche has been using Israeli data and showing how the widespread vaccination rates were creating pressure on the virus to mutate into variants with higher levels of contagion. The unvaccinated group has been keeping the pressure down by defeating the virus and carrying natural immunity. However, as the unvaccinated population is increasingly made smaller, the pressure on the virus to mutate increases. Subsequently, these mutations stay at higher or more effective levels of infection.
Israel is already on it’s second round of booster shots.
The long term impacts of antibody dependency are unknown. Some doctors and scientists are already worried that normal cancer fighting antibodies will become dormant and we could see an explosion of unusual cancer clusters due to antibody suppression caused by the COVID vaccines.
Remember, no one knows exactly what this targeted vaccine will do to the overall human immune system as it responds to other viruses or infections. The vaccinated population are the human trial subjects, and the unvaccinated population are the control group.
In the U.K. data study there were:
157,400 Delta variant cases amid the fully vaccinated (26.52% of total cases), and 257,357 Delta variant cases amid the unvaccinated (43.36% of total cases). However, when it came to severe outcomes 63.5% of deaths were from the fully vaccinated group. [source]

Moderna has said, and I did work in biotech to confirm this, that a new vaccine with a new variant included for immunity would be a cakewalk.
I am not sure what you are questioning..they know delta emerged in India in Nov 2020.
It is dominant because it is so contagious.

He says "some types of vaccines" in the link you provided me.
And it has happened! Hep B, pertussis, pneumo.

But it has not happened in most vaccines. And here is why I stick with conventional medicine on this.
They took what was the equivalent of a plastic/fake virus body and stuck the spike protein on it, gave it to animals, and the animals got very sick/died. Conclusion being that the spike protein IS the part of covid we want to attack with a vaccine.
Both Modern a and Pfizer used every single epitome on the spike protein, the whole enchilada, in their mrna recipe.
So ok, maybe people with covid made antibodies to other parts of the virus, maybe an epitome on its bottom or something. But is it relevant, or iow is it pathogenic?
The whole premise is that antibodies to only the spike protein make covid vaccines leaky.
So for instance with Hep B, they took the main antigen, the one we use for testing in fact, and created a vaccine from it. But then they found people still had the disease, while testing neg for the antigen. So obviously more of the virus than that *one* antigen causes disease. In the case of covid vaccines, however, the spike protein contains many antigens, and we vaxxed are indeed making poly clonal abs.
Way back in the 1980s I got the vaccine series. And OMG I was mouthpipetting racks and racks of greenish-sera hep samples for testing. I never got Hep B.

So ok, maybe people with covid made antibodies to other parts of the virus, maybe an epitome on its bottom or something. But is it relevant, or iow is it pathogenic? It takes more than the spike protein to make the virus. The rest of it is not just fluff along for the ride. Now that we know Delta evades the vaccine why isn't it being updated for Delta? After all, the flu vaccine is formulated against multiple strains every year
The whole premise is that antibodies to only the spike protein make covid vaccines leaky.
That the vaccine is leaky is not a premise, it is an observed fact. You folks seem to have a lot of trouble telling the two apart, meaning you are approaching the whole question from a political rather than a scientific angle.
That's the problem right there: people looking for an easy way out, mucking around things they don't really understand and thinking they are geniuses when it doesn't immediately blow up in their faces.
When you go all wooly with what should be hard science and your standard of success is that everything seems ok you invite disaster. They are like a bunch of teenage boys setting fire to an ant bed using gasoline and thinking they are mighty as they watch the ants fry. Not realizing the ants aren't what they should be concerned about.

I worked in biotech and vaccine development for over a decade.
Did grad work in immunology.
Lots of assay development.
I know what I am talking about and I lived hard science in well paid careers for 40+ years.
It doesn’t matter at all if the rest of the virus has only a rare epitope.
So tell me what you think a leaky vaccine is. I think you are following a conspiracy guy. Which one?
There is zip nadda, no evidence that the covid vaccines are leaky.
It is a theory. I am going to go back through your links later this evening and explain to you what they mean.

And you base that on what?
Actually some highly credentialed doctors and scientists have been warning about this, complete with data to back their positions for a year now.
And it is playing out exactly as they predicted.
To: hopespringseternal
Also history is your friend. They said all the same things about the MMR vaccine. Andrew Wakefield.

I created all of the assays used on cows during the clinical trials for BGH.
I created and ran most of the assays used during the animal clinical trials for tpa. Dogs.
I probably have more experience in immunology than anyone on this forum. I hang out with virologists in private forums where we talk about this.
So politics has zero to do with my beliefs.

Antibodies to the specific spike protein of the Covid alpha. These antibodies do not react to Covid variants. That is why the delta version is now the most prevalent type.

There is zip nadda, no evidence that the covid vaccines are leaky. Are you insane? They don't stop infection or transmission. They don't last very long, so even if they did initially it wouldn't last. Look at Israel -- they are planning a fourth shot booster for crying out loud. How crappy does it have to be before you people are willing to admit it?
As far as a definition of a leaky vaccine how about this conspiracy guy?
Or this one?
What I am finding time and time again is that you folks jumping up and down about "science!" and telling us all about your credentials either haven't read the research or are ignoring it.

They are talking about a possible 4th booster shot, one that will incorporate immunity to variants.
Did you know that the common colors are coronaviruses?
The reason we keep getting them over and over again is because our immunity after having them is gone in about 3 months.
Since my entire career has been infectious disease I was following closely with many medical professionals as this broke in China.
For quite some time there was very little hope of a vaccine, and if it could be hoped for, we thought we would be getting boosters four times/year.
When news of Modernas clinical trials broke (which my husband and i both volunteered for), we were ecstatic that a vaccine was even possible.
Then, and we were living there for 30 years, the docs in Seattle were sharing their experiences with the first covid pts in our country. I also had read many of the docs experiences in Italy..
Where we are now is a miracle, and a testament to science.
So these vaccines lasting even six months is amazing to those of us who get coronaviruses.
I am actually at 8 months and getting nervous about my booster...
The research you are reading, I still have to go over your other links..so let me get to that.

Have you had calculus? I need to get some help from my husband for the equations in your “conspiracy guy” link.I had it but it did not stick as well...he is a whiz with it.
But since it was written in 2014, it portends nothing for covid.
I have already said in a previous post that a few vaccines were leaky, ie Hep B, Pneumo.
So discussion about who is more susceptible to a leaky vaccine doesn’t seem applicable to our discussion re:covid.

In your second link, the author mirrors exactly what I have said here.. "There is a theoretical expectation that some types of vaccines could prompt the evolution of more virulent (“hotter”) pathogens." It is a theory.

They do. Here is evidence for Pfizer. I would have to dig for Moderna.
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3790399
Nonetheless, the remaining spike proteins are covered. They have not all mutated.
And no vaccine is 100%, even the canine rabies vaccine is only 99%.
We are creating polyclonal abs with mrna vaccines.
Which epitope is targeted by the monoclonal abs in Regeneron?

Those links were definitions of a leaky vaccine to answer your accusation that the concept of a leaky vaccine was a conspiracy theory. Those links do not address the MRNA vaccines.
Actual observation finds that COVID reinfection is almost unheard of in previously infected and rather routine among the vaccinated. Yet you persist in your blind faith, ignoring every bit of empirical evidence. Why?
You pretend that vaccines magically provide better protection than the very immune response they are intended to trigger. How?
These are the marks of unbridled arrogance: continually filtering the data to match your expectations rather than matchin your data to actual observation.

In post 143 I said there have been leaky vaccines.
And one of the links I posted for you details them.
Why would I say they are a conspiracy theory?
What you must mean is that covid vaccines being leaky are a conspiracy theory.
I think we don’t know know yet but so far they are not showing that they are.
