The beloved Babylon 5 is getting rebooted, and series creator JMS is running the show

J. Michael Straczynski : Babylon 5 is in active development as a series for the CW ... this is a reboot from the ground up rather than a continuation, for several reasons ... {the } tradition for innovation will continue in this new iteration, and I hope to create additional new forms of storytelling that will further push the television medium to the edge of what’s possible.

Warner Bros said : In a from-the-ground-up reboot of the original series, John Sheridan, an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last, best hope for the survival of the human race.

Zathras will be glad

I have yet to see the entire reboot of Battlestar. I like the idea of the whole origin of the Cylons. A great mythology.
And Bear Mccreary’s music is fantastic.

I still miss Firefly, but if any Babylon 5 fans feel the same way about that series as I do about Firefly, then no actors can live up to the originals and a reboot would be hated.

I know that if it were to come out now, with all of the woke crap going on, then it’ll be awful.

At least the original creator for this one is involved, though. It’s interesting to see that it’s anticipated.

at this point I'm not sure humanity deserves a last, best hope. At least, not the collectivists and the eugenicists.

Unless Ivanova is god, it won’t be worth watching.

A couple of observations:

1. Because the CGI was not done in a way that the resolution could be improved, the Blu-Ray release of the original series was not possible without spending a LOT of money.

2. Science fiction "soap operas" are more flexible than situation comedies, because they involve imagined universes rather than plays on reality. Other CW properties that have had woke-ness injected into them play false. (Cf Batwoman.) Just as Star Trek shot off in its own direction in its own universe, the rebooted B5 can do likewise in a smoother way.

3. I'm hoping that the reboot does a better job showing how the previous four stations were lost sometime mid-way through the first season. Specifically, I would like to see how B5 survived the fate of B1, B2, and B3 (and perhaps B4, unless JMS is going to time-tinker again).

I want to see what JMS has up his sleeve. Especially, how the new story will differ from the old, like the new Battlestar Galactia invented a better universe than the original.

The reboot of BG was wonderful from the very first episode to the very last—well worth your time.

While I enjoyed B5 as well, imho Seasons 3 and 4 were heads and shoulders above the other seasons.

The reboot of Battlestar wax really good IMO except for the ending where the envorolefties good their hooks into it and made the ending very disappointing, for me at least.

It was barely watchable at first, but quickly became a soap set in space. About halfway through all the characters are so painfully stupid I didn’t care what happened to them.

The battlestar galactica reboot, not the original B5, which was excellent.

Cautiously optimistic.

The new cast will have large shoes to fill…

[Opening narration, season 4]
Lennier : It was the year of fire,
Zack Allan : The year of destruction,
Citizen G’Kar : The year we took back what was ours.
Lyta Alexander : It was the year of rebirth,
Ambassador Vir Cotto : The year of great sadness,
Marcus Cole : The year of pain,
Delenn : And a year of joy.
Ambassador Londo Mollari : It was a new age.
Dr. Stephen Franklin : It was the end of history.
Susan Ivanova : It was the year everything changed.
Michael Garibaldi : The year is 2261.
Captain John Sheridan : The place, Babylon 5.

G’Kar : No dictator, no invader, can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Sheridan: I apologize. I’m...sorry. [sighs] I’m sorry we had to defend ourselves against an unwarranted attack. I’m sorry that your crew was stupid enough to fire on a station filled with a quarter million civilians, including your own people. And I’m sorry I waited as long as I did before I blew them all straight to hell! [pauses] As with everything else, it’s the thought that counts.

How would would that be, now? Can’t wait for the big story arc featuring the romance between Jenna and Servalan . . .

Not sure about this.

I loved the original but a reboot?

all the characters are so painfully stupid I didn’t care what happened to them.

That was the gritty realism--most people are &^%$ing stupid.
