Lithium is a necessary component of the batteries for electric cars that environmentalists are always claiming to be in favor of.
However, after lithium mining was proposed in California, environmentalists objected to the proposal.
The Los Angeles Times reported:
The drilling request has generated strong opposition from the Center for Biological Diversity, the Sierra Club and the Defenders of Wildlife, who say the drilling project would be an initial step toward the creation of a full-scale lithium mining operation. They say lithium extraction would bring industrial sprawl, large and unsightly drying ponds and threaten a fragile ecosystem that supports Nelson’s bighorn sheep, desert tortoises and the Panamint alligator lizard, among other species.
“A lithium mine would destroy these spectacular panoramas,” drilling opponent Tom Budlong said recently as he and fellow activists buzzed over the Panamint Valley in a chartered Ecoflight aircraft.

You think they’re against mining rare earths. Wait until we try to process them. That’s when it’ll get really ugly.
This is typical of the left. They try to undermine society in any way that they can. The oppose things that help the country, and when they win, they oppose the alternative so that they can continue to undermine the county. They wont stop opposing things until they have their revolution.
I think it’s important to realize that electric vehicles are not their goal.
They want us living in caves, surviving on nuts and berries, with a population of perhaps 20 million. They will oppose anything and everything until we are primitives.
They also don’t want us to extract the oil and natural gas that is used to make the plastics that are a major part of electric cars, up to about 50% by volume and 10% by weight.

But it will be just hunky dory when the Chinese start mining in Afganistan because they have such a great envirionmental track record.

The church of Leftism in this country has been trying to outlaw private ownership of automobiles for at least 50 years. Excise taxes, use taxes, mandated complexity and emissions inspections not to mention the increased regulations involved with repair and insurance have placed an ever heavier load on the motorist in this effort. This is nothing new.

Sorry Dan, but if you understood the purpose of pushing cars, you’d then understand that there is NOTHING ‘hilarious’ about their position. Their position makes PERFECT SENSE.
They’re currently opposed to cleaning up all the poo that the people are leaving on the San Francisco streets.
Environmentalists are only interested in stopping the extraction of lithium in their back yard, notice there’s no environmentalist in Chile for stopping it there....
I think South Korea secured those mining right in Afghanistan.
