Death of "I have a Dream" - the new overt discrimination against white males

I am a partner at one of the top 25 national law firms. I have been practicing law for more than 20 years. The dream of Martin Luther King is rapidly being extinguished by the new cadre of woke culture warriors. Never in my career have I observed such unabashed discrimination against white males as I have seen in the past 12-18 months.

We represent many major life sciences companies, corporations whose names would be familiar to all of you. Our clients have become militant in regulating the skin color and gender of the attorneys who are staffed on their matters. They all require us to provide race/gender breakdowns of the attorneys at the Firm.

Recently, one of my female partners led a three person team to a pitch meeting with a prospective client with whom we already have a relationship. She took two highly-qualified white male partners to accompany her to the meeting. After the meeting she was pulled aside by in-house counsel and chastised for bringing the two white males to the meeting. She was informed it was "tone deaf" and could not happen again.

Another major life sciences client has given us actual quotas. Including that 40% of the staff time on their matters be by women and 10% by underrepresented minorities. If the quotas are not met we will lose all work from them. This particular client has also insisted we provide gender/race breakdowns for attorneys staffed on their matters who work in Europe, even though providing such data is illegal according to the laws in many EU countries. Amazingly, this client has also offered to "assist" my firm in deciding who we should internally promote.

The vast majority of my partners are on the East Coast and are hardcore liberals. So the foregoing does not conceptually bother them other than figuring out how to comply with the mandates. When it was pointed out to the white female partner who took the two white males to the client meeting that she has two sons, the notion that they could be subject to the same kind of discrimination was lost on her.

In any event, just wanted to vent and give some insight into what is happening in my industry. I expect quotas and overt gender and racial discrimination against white males to become more and more normalized. Indeed, when commercials come on TV, do any of you also play the game "find the white guy"?

I would feel bad for you and your co-workers if it were not for lawyers causing most of this nonsense in the first place. Our legal system has morphed into an absolute mess with no one to blame but the lawyers themselves. And I know this from hard and bitter first hand experience. This is simply the what goes around comes around principal in actions.

That said I am well aware that there are maybe 10% of lawyers who are not blood sucking entitled fiends and you may be one of them. But how are any of us to know? A smiling lawyer is not to be trusted under any circumstances.

Sadly, Mrs rktman and i commented on that just the other day. Hope you have your retirement scenario firmly in place. But, nothing over the new suspicious number of $600.00 anyplace “they” can monitor it. 😕🔥🐂💩

I have always said that lawyers have the best rackets around.

They can make amendment after amendment and file motion after motion with never ending litigation.
They’ll never go out of business.

We may have to go through a true apartheid phase before this is sorted out. We are already seeing a form of pass laws.

Interesting. Sad. Requiring “us to provide race/gender breakdowns” is simply the unethical work of illogical and lazy people. The people who built Apollo 11 in 1969 did not worry about skin color. Rockwell in Downey in 1969 only worried about quality and design perfection. They knew every tree where their lumber came from and every foundry their bolts came from. Yup, they had a variety of races and genders that no one noticed. Worrying about race and gender will not put a man on the moon.

Anyone who has worked in the big corporate law firms knows that 85 percent + are white liberals and the other 15 percent shut their mouths about politics unless they are also lobbyists who have to have contacts in the R party. So I get the poster’s point but I don’t feel overly sorry for the white males who are being cut out by this since their parents in law firms funded it, and occasionally orchestrated it. My concern is that the left is trying to make merit a thing of the past across the board in all occupations and they are using the large public corporations to push it out.

In the last 2 years, I’ve noticed that lot of white women (especially blond ones) see to have black male partners. There was one commercial in particular where a black man was in the bathroom and the woman taking a show pulled back the curtain to reveal she was white. Not very subtle.

The thing is that women especially will pay attention to and act on this propaganda.

I dealt with affirmative action for my entire career when it came to both hiring and promotions. I have no sympathy for lawyers when after all these years it is finally coming back to bite them in the a$$. The rest of us have been dealing with this ugly monster for over 40 years and now all of a sudden they start to notice? Well good for them. But it is the fault of our legal system which is made up of lawyers... they are the ones who have the power to do something about it. But will they? Not if this whiney legal eagle is representative of what they have become.

In some ways, this might become self correcting when the “diverse” teams start losing cases. Of course, this assumes that the cases will be decided on the legal merits vs. the racial makeup of the legal team.

Consider yourself lucky that this is a recent trend for you, it’s been that way in my “industry” (national defense) for a decade or more. I developed a very advanced simulation at one point, and on the recruiting video they literally had a black junior employee say, “Hi, I am Lambslave, the developer of the **** simulation, and this is my team of developers (all women and blacks in the video... all white males in real life)”. No one even told me about it, I saw it one day by chance.

A lot of this comes from “corporate leaders” like Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan who were bailed out during Bush’s 2008 home loan crisis by US taxpayers. Despite this, they continued to make mounds of money in “performance bonuses” that year and there was no objection from Hank Paulson, Bush’s Treasury Sec. who used to head Goldman Sachs and who orchestrated the taxpayer bailout. The response of Dimon and others to the middle class is not one of gratitude or even recognition but to cut them and their children out of corporate hiring. This is exactly why we need someone like Trump as President - he knows the system and these failed players inside out and can beat them at their own game, unlike the senile tool of a fool they put in the White House.

Among the many letters I send annually to papers and commentators are two siting Dr. King. The individual claiming “tone deafness” is an intellectual cripple, and I doubt he is capable of allowing the words of our Declaration of Independence or Constitution to penetrate his ideological screen.

Independence Day for All

The philosophical doctrines supporting the Declaration of Independence placed master and slave on the same natural plain of existence in 1776. All became defined as sovereign individuals finding their identity in exercising pre-existing intangible liberties accompanied by the hazards and uncertainties of these personal freedoms. Their ethnicity, gender, class, and race would always be secondary expressions of humanity.

But subsequent generations of politicians engaged in all the vices, follies and infirmities expected of humans as they debated and implemented policies accommodating trade, fisheries, agriculture, transportation, and mining amid speculative fevers. They ignored the rising influence of the political infallibility and intransigence of abolitionists and planters who blundered us into the Civil War.

Next for 1,500 days, Americans killed Americans until over 700,000 had died in battles, hospitals, and prisons. The men in blue and grey uniforms created an environment for winning the war. But this national catastrophe would not prompt consideration of first principles as blacks would find freedom a precious talisman lacking instructions and protections for the future. A Dream of Liberty for All

Dr. Martin Luther King saw personal liberties as preeminent keys to personal sovereignty by saying,” When the architects of our Republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men- yes black men as well as white men-would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…..So we’ve come to cash this check; a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.”

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

“This will be the day when all of God’s children will be able to sing with new meaning. ‘My country, ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.”

Americans are individuals whose find primary identity is in pre-existing, natural, intangible liberties, and only secondarily in ethnicity, gender, class, or race. Dr. King reminded us of the philosophical doctrines consulted for founding placed all on the same metaphysical plain from inception of the Republic and made us all brothers and sisters.
