17 Killed in Taliban’s Celebratory Gunfire in Kabul After ‘Panjshir Take-Over’

The Taliban terrorist group unleashed a barrage of aerial gunfire in and around Kabul on Friday after the group reportedly gained ground in Panjshir province, the last region in Afghanistan that still remains under the control of anti-Taliban militants.

At least 17 people were killed and 41 injured, including children, local Afghan news outlets reported. The Taliban fired the celebratory gunfire as news broke that the resistance in Panjshir was defeated.

“We are in control of entire Afghanistan. The troublemakers have been defeated and Panjshir is now under our command,” news agency Reuters quoted one Taliban leader as saying.

Very unfortunate of Panjshir has fallen. That was the last real area of resistance to the Taliban, and if it has fallen then it means the Taliban now control everything in Afghanistan.

I truly never thought Panjshir would fall. It has historically been the one part of the country that had never fallen to invaders - be they the Russians or the earlier Taliban regime. They remained steadfast.

Now, thanks to the withdrawal and massive weapon depots left to the Taliban, it’s fallen.

I hope Biden is proud.

As an adviser attached to a Saudi Mech Inf Bde during Desert Storm I was issued an FN 9MM pistol for "Personal Protection" along with two 15 round magazines and 12 rounds of 9M Ball ammo. It seems the Saudi NCO's carrying Steyr 9mm submachine guns caused a constant shortage of 9MM ammo with their "celebrating".

On a call home I casually mentioned this to my SSG/Drill Sgt wife who promptly got arrested for trying to send me ammo through the mail. When the Postmaster heard her story they declined to prosecute but wouldn't give the ammo back.
